I think when we start to actually find more power adders that we will find the weaknesses in the transmissions etc.

$58 might be a good thing though. I really don't need to go any faster than I am now. I will see how these things play out for awhile.

Ok, I believe I asked the same question on Portez's 'Magic Box' thread, but have yet to receive an answer. What year/model Honda did ya'all use to order the magic box?

I have seen alot of cheaper variants on ebay if you search CDIs with scooter or pit bike.

Seems the scooter crowd has alot of options. They run about $30.

Well heck, my lead as having the fastest Chinese enduro just evaporated. :(
Time to start shopping for nitrous, a turbo and fuel injection...
Or should I go All Motor and bump my compression up to 12.5:1, use a really hot cam and add a 36mm Mikuni pumper?
Anyone interested in the next step can get a 34mm Mikuni flatslide carb for $98(w/o the acceleration pump).... If I had the money, I would one would be on my bike right now. Timing+carb+full pipe... that should make for some useable power from these engines.

BTW... looks like Porterz might not have been stretching the truth when he said 90mph. Didn't he have gearing just a bit taller than a stock GY-5?

Not me. 70 is fast enough. I just would like more grunt for the hills.

Actually, unless I'm reading wrong, he was using the stock GY5 rear sprocket. It was either that or the stock GY2, according to this quote from that thread...

I am thinking about the big bore kit and cams.

The sprocket is mentioned after the "coming soon" part, so it's possible (I'm guessing) that it wasn't yet installed, which would leave him w/ the stock GY2. Either way, I believe it was a stock GY sprocket.

If his bike was stock geared, that raises a question for me.
I've said before, hitting 80 mph seemed like it was very hard on my bike. The tach was buried (bouncing badly, so I just tried to average it out! ).
I'm wondering, since the tach picks up it's signal from the CDI, was the bouncing needle an effect of mechanical vibration, or was it the fault of the CDI itself? I have mentioned before that I suspect the timing begins to get unstable at higher RPM's , if that's the case, maybe I wasn't hitting as many RPMs as I thought and the rough running/sounding engine afterwards was due to the timing going wild during the run.
I'm really just kinda' throwing this out... It's just a hunch really and it may be that my CDI was made at 4:28 on a Friday...
Any thoughts?

I think I would agree with you that it seems like the timing becomes unstable at high rpms. My bike does not ever want to go over 7000 rpm (the tach behaves like you described). I normally don't drive over 5000 rpm for that reason. Could it be the CDI? If so I might just be due for a new one with timing advance

for some reason this thread brings to mind an image of scotty from star trek declaring in his deeply accented scottish way, "she can't take anymore captain..she's gonna bloooowwww"

So!

In the opinion of those who have purchased these wonderful items....

Will they make highway riding a reality?

'Cuz I'd just love to be able to ride for extended periods of time at 70 mph (110 kph). I realize this is probably wishful thinking, though, especially through the upper end of the Appalachians I'd need to go through up here.

Hit 85 today in 5th at 8000rpm confirmed by GPS, bike does not feel comfortable at that speed though, probably because they were never mean't to go that fast... What I did notice is it will rev farther and longer through the gears kinda like before I switched out my 38t for the 42t sprocket but with more top end... Hope this helps somebody...
