CDI box install and test (I expect to break 100mph)

I am headed out to install and maybe test run the CDI box even though the temp is 46f out right now.

If I can get thru the difficult installation  I should be set to BLAST OFF.

I'll only have pics of the install since my camera isnt fast enough to catch things moving as fast as I expect to be moving after the install.

Plus I'm going to look goofy with my protective suit made out of bubble wrap.(its like an airbag for bikers-just in case)

Pics coming soon.................

OK it was touch and go but I think I got it.
At first I must have plugged it into my blinkers because they were flashing very very fast(DOH) then I remembered where to plug it in.

My bike as it is.

Seat and side panel off.

Installed : I had to stuff some rubber around it since it was slightly smaller than the stock unit.

DO NOT look at this last picture it's a secret that I use on as many little bolts as I can (body panels)

I never lose a body panel bolt/screw.

OK just got back from a frost run...... yes it's cold out there right now.(still 46F)

I never got close to winding it out and the stock speedo read 65 mph but I never trust that speedo but I was closing in on the cagers fast until I seen the sheriff.

Personally I dont think it did a whole lot but maybe thats because I have already done a lot to my bike and this CDI box just wasnt as noticable on mine as it might be on a stock bike.

It may just help the top end more also IDK.

More testing to follow (some product testing is fun )

DirtRoadKing nope I'm just that good.

It could held up by wishful thinking but most likely blind obliviousness.

I got all the way up to 60mph today! (downhill, all stock, GPS confirmed)

It's a bit chilly here today as well, but I still logged about 60 miles (100k).

On topic: I'm a little sad to hear to your results. I wasn't really planning on this mod, but it's nice to have options. Maybe we'll get lucky and more tests will prove fruitful. Good luck...and be careful! 8O

Got mine in the mail today too and installed after a hectic 2 mins. of removing the seat and body panel, removing the old CDI and plugging in the new one, I had to stop and take a break for a cold one...

Seriously though, I ran it up and down the road several times and it does what it says it does, I couldn't get it totally wound out but I was in 4th gear, 60mph(digital speedo) at 5000 rpm with plenty left to spare and one more gear to go and it seems to have a bit more torque, I'm sure if you were running a 17/46 it would pull wheelies.

I am running a 17/42 sprocket combo, just switched back from a 17/38, K&N cone filter, drilled pipe and still experimenting with jets to find the right size, the stocker is back in for now, so basically it's still a stock bike with the exception of painting it flat black which makes it look much more aerodynamic and faster... Oh, I weigh 150#'s..

Bottom line, it is a worthy mod for street use and with taller gearing, don't think it'll do much in the dirt though. If your looking for a "Magic Box" to make your bike beat DRZ's this isn't it but it's worth $58 bucks shipped to increase your top end and that's where it's most noticeable.

The way I look at it, it's a 200cc China bike and I don't expect miracles from it and have no desire to turn it into a speedster, it's basic transportation and fun to take apart, mod and put back together, not to mention it gets me outta the house and in the garage for hours at a time and sometimes I do nothing to it but try to make alot of noise so it sounds like I'm doing something...(Gets me out of watching American Idol w/ the kids.)

Gonna take it to work in the morn and will post what she does all wound out, looking forward to it..

Performance upgrades would be great.

But I'd like to know how these boxes affect gas mileage.
