I have progressive. My auto insurance subcontracts with them so I went direct. $75/year.

Well I think that rule has to do with the fact that in BC you don't have any choice for insurance, and since the collector plate is only for pleasure use, they require you to have another insured, assuming you would use a vehicle for purposes other then pleasure, mostly work I guess, even if you don't work though I don't think this exempts you from that rule...

We do have third party insurance for optional stuff, like theft, fire, vandalism, and collision, all the stuff I don't have still with the $400 bill, but to be considered by the third party companies you typically need to be 26 (10 years with a license).

Florida has an interesting insurance rate on motorcycles, $10,000 liabilty if you don't want to wear a helmet, that's it... It would cost me the same as DRKing but I have full ins. for $56 bucks a year through GEICO and I will always wear a helmet, screw the naysayers, helmets save lives, point blank...JMO...

I just put insurance on a Komoto 250 in Maryland. Ran me $63 for the year, liability. The company is Foremost. Now I have a bike with insurance and no tags! You have to love the state of Maryland!

You know all the people in Canada that have posted about the VERY high premiums they pay... to a non profit Gov run insurance... Kinda funny how the "proffit making" companies can provide the same service for much less $$... Kinda makes you wonder where all that money is going.... into the hands of bloated govt paper pushers.. thats where..
And we want to go to govt controled health care in the USA??? You think its expensive now... just wait till the Feds get there hands in it.

I cant think of a single thing that the govt does better or cheaper than private enterprise... when you eliminate competition the price will always go up, or the service will go down... there is no incentive for them to care.. cause you have no choice but to choose them.

Sorry.. its off topic a little.. But I just had to say it.

Ken

Agreed, but will keep this to motorcycle insurance.

I have had my progressive policy for years and it has been the same amount everytime. Didn't matter what bike really.

Sorry Kato, I'll stop soon.
I'm with Jevco, it's private, not gov. That is not why it's expensive. I have to get a $1,000 000 policy, maybe it's 500 000$ to pay for the damage I do. Same with everyone up here, cars too. If someone I hit with bike or car is really hurt, there is no suing, insurance companies take over.

N2R, I was referring to the politics. The topic IS bike insurance.

Geico and Progressive seem to be the big names and will insure almost anyone.
