Most are 1-N-2-3-4-5 as other mainstream bike BUT there's also all-down & that infamous "rotary" .

I've yet to see or hear about a rotary in NA. I've only seen all-down in an ATC or a kid's bike.

My Kinroad has the all-down shift pattern... neutral at the top... 1-5 down (not rotary... stops at N-up and 5-down).
I actually kind of like it. I don't fancy neutral at the top... too easy to shift into N coming to a stop... but I eye the neutral light and pop it back into 1st when it does happen. The tap down upshifting feels faster and smoother. Kinroad made/makes ATVs... so my counter-balanced engine likely was sourced from that pile. Cheers!
