Is a performance CDI worth it. (gy200)

Had anyone seen a real difference with a CDI. And did you replace the coil as well. I was looking and on of the orange sets. Just looking for some input.

Some GY200 riders have tried these performance CDI units, and liked them, John. I haven't tried such a unit on my Zongshen 200GY-2, so I will defer further comments to the GY200 riders who have experience with these units.

I am also interested in this subject. I don't want to cut the governor wire cuz it already rattles like a mother at anything over 7 grand. But I guess part of the performance CDI units appeal is a raised rev limiter anyway. But yeah I cant see a more aggressive spark curve really doing much for my sluggish trailmaster 200. I gotta redline and slapshift the old girl just to keep up with a geo metro. (Okay its not really that bad, but more power would really be nice.)

I heard some say it helps. And some say only do it if you bore it port and polish it. Well if im going to do that. That is were im going to fet the power from (bigger bore and smother air flow). But i also heard you dont need to get that crazy to get a few extra ponies out of them. So if anyone added them with out bore, port and polish. What did you think.

I replaced both the cdi and the coil and for me it seems to start better when it's cold and the throttle response appears to be better. did it give me more power? don't know but it does run better.

a port and polish is not needed or related to cdi or other ignition tweaks

I don't believe the bore/port/polish was said to be required.

No doubt i agree. But i have read some ad's for CDI's. And they say to port, polish and bore. Wel that is were you are going to get your real power. Not the cdi.
