Geocaching ride

My neighbor & I got out for a ride today, and did a little geocaching.

I couldn't find this cache the first trip here in the fall, but we had better luck this time. The cache is the ammo can on the seat.

A good fishing hole at the cache site. It was a pretty rough ride to get in here.

Gum Boot Hill. Supposedly long ago some hunter got lost and the only thing they found in the spring was his boots. [/img]

Check out www.geocaching.com. It explains everything much better than I could! Try doing a search for caches within 25 miles of your zipcode, you may be surprised at the number that are close!

Hey, that's cool! I had heard of geocaching, but never checked it out. I'm surprised at how many are within a mile or 2 of my house! LOL, now I'm signed up for the Easter Egg Hunt for grownups!

What sort of GPS do you have, what would you recomend, not only for geocaching, but trail riding with a dual/sport.. I may look into one as this looks fun, but want to make sure I dont sell myself short on the GPS... (probably used on the road a bit too I guess..)

Wow, that is very cool. I have a Lowrance iFinderGo GPS that I got off
ebay for cheap. I just figured out how to use it tonight. It's nothing fancy
but does work pretty good. You may have just turned me on to a new
hobby.

There's a couple caches just east of me...geocaching is actually one of the reasons I bought us these dirtbikes...I mean, c'mon, what are we - monkeys still? Why walk when we've discovered internal combustion? (Oh yeah, cuz our arteries clog up with no exercise.)

Geocaching... that's way too cool.

10 caches' 1/2 mile or less from my house and another 50 5 miles or less
over 200 10 miles or less.

Hmm....
I'll just forget I saw this post as my wife and kids complain I'm never home enough as it is due to work.

That is really cool, this geocaching. Checked and I couldn't believe the number of geocaching in my area. Now if I can find a cheap gps, looks like fun.

It is a fun and addicting hobby. I guess it is kinda like an Easter Egg hunt for adults. There wasn't anything special in that cache, but sometimes you can find some interesting stuff. I try to trade evenly when I do trade, but lately I have just been signing the logbooks.
The gps I use is a Garmin Etrex Legend. It works pretty well, has 8 meg of memory for loading maps. It had a grayscale display, which can make it hard to tell the difference between a stream & a country road. I paid 140 for the adventure pack from Best Buy. also bought a handlebar mount from gpsnow? for 16 bucks or so.If you have the extra cash go for the color model. I hear the detail is great.
After i posted that original message I went for a little ride & found another one just as the sun was going down. I also used geocaching as a reason to buy my bike! And my bike is the roketa DB-07A. Ok, I think I answered all the questions!
Give geocaching a try, i think you'll like it.

My wife & I have been Geocaching for a couple years now. There are caches all over the world....

We use the bikes all summer long to do this. I ride the Lifan or KLR and she rides her XT225.
