My 9 yr old wants a Dirt Bike

Hey so my 9 yr old wants a Dirt Bike now. I want to get a bike that he can learn on but will have enough power for the Sand Dunes in Pismo Beach, CA.

I was thinking he would need a 125cc?

Hes never rode a dirt bike before so maybe an automatic or semi-auto?

Any suggestions?

Oh and needs to be legal in California.

My suggestion is to get a 70cc- 90cc automatic with training wheels....once he gets use to controlling the throttle then he can work on balance..

He will have the wheels off in less than a month..

Just my 2 cents..

90cc honda's go for fairly cheap used. i would honestly say to get a semi auto or just a reguler clutched transmission.. autos get boring fast, so if you got him a 90 with a standard transmission ya it will take him longer to learn the clutch but he will has have more fun with it longer. just if it has some kind of throttle limitation device set it for low throttle

Semi auto are nice for beginners. I ride a 90cc baja myself. It will haul me around no problem on the trails.

If you want to ride the dunes concentrate on finding one with decent suspension. The engines are easy to swap and upgrade later on.

Not sure what is legal in CA.
