Spark plug selection

I found this to be very interesting. Has anyone chosen a plug other than what came with the bike or that was an exact cross reference plug?

I just put a NGKDR8EA in mine after running the stock plug for 3000 miles. Wow, what a difference. The bike is much more peppier, doesnt bog down when I want to pop wheelies, especially when it gets hot. I noticed my engine running a lot smoother at higher rpms also.

Does anyone know the difference between a DPR8EA-9 plug? I for some reason have two of those in the garage and I don't have a clue as to what bike they may have gone with over the years.

+1 for the NGK D8EA. I just installed one in my Viva a few days ago. With the oil change yesterday the bike runs completely different. Money well spent!

These 200cc engines are set up for The NGK D8EA, D7EA, D6EA spark plugs. Other numbered plugs can cause problems read all 5 pages: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinf...000&country=US
NGK Spark plugs heat ranges go like this...The small the first number the Hotter the plug, the larger the number the colder the plug. So a D6EA is a Hotter plug than a D8EA.
I hope that this helps.

What about the DPR8EA-9 plug? It's still appears to be an 8 but I'm not sure about the other designations.

Ok here is an NGK PDF file that explains the letters & numbers on their spark plugs, as all plugs are for certain applications that is the incorrect plug for these bikes, I know that A. Lifan says to use a D7/D8 in the owners manual...Twice.

Apart from the P for projected insulator I don't see anything of significance that would be an issue. Maybe I'm missing something. Anybody?

Fatboy,

According to the site Bruce provided... P is for projected insulator. R is for resistor type. And that plugs runs on the cold end of the spectrum.

Does the reach and insulator length match the d8ea or dr8ea?

if you know that then maybe you would have your answer.

Im operating on the dr8ea, per the tech section here on spark plug compatiblity.

That would be if the P was in the last digit before the -9.

Anyway, I guess it should be about the same since it is still an 8 heat rating. The 9 references the gap (.036")
