A good idea that I think is only on chinese bikes. I have never seen it on a Jap bike.

This could be there for insurance and road worthy purposes in other countries. In Canada, all vehicles on the road must have some form of 'daytime running light' that automatically comes on while the vehicle is in gear. In manual transmissions it is controlled by the emergency brake, and in automatics when it is engaged when the vehicle is out of "park"
I'm not sure what other countries have this vehicle law, but I'm sure there are others. |

Do you drive with your headlight on during the day?

I think it is a law in the US that you cant have a switch to turn off the headlight. On my old GS750, it had a a cover over the switch that prevented you from turning it off or on. On my current China bike, there is no on/off switch, only a dimmer.

Interesting. Are automatic car headlights required in Canada?
My Corvette was a Canadian export model and was standard with the automatic lights. Very frustrating.

It used to be the headlights would just come on. You would need to flip the switch inside to turn on the dash lights and the tail lights. Nowadays, car companies are more creative and are using the park lights or some form of fog light as the daytime running light requirement. My 2006 van runs with the park lights on until the headlights are turned on via a darkness sensor (auto mode) or by turning them on manually. |
