The little light bulb inside the Zong's headlight is the running light, Alan. If you headlight is extinquished, the running light will help reveal your presence to other motorists.

I know the Yamaha TW200 has the running lights built into the front turn signals. In contrast, the Zong uses the small light bulb inside the headlight for the running light.

This could be there for insurance and road worthy purposes in other countries. In Canada, all vehicles on the road must have some form of 'daytime running light' that automatically comes on while the vehicle is in gear. In manual transmissions it is controlled by the emergency brake, and in automatics when it is engaged when the vehicle is out of "park"

I'm not sure what other countries have this vehicle law, but I'm sure there are others.

Do you drive with your headlight on during the day?

I think it is a law in the US that you cant have a switch to turn off the headlight. On my old GS750, it had a a cover over the switch that prevented you from turning it off or on. On my current China bike, there is no on/off switch, only a dimmer.

Safety police. They cited 'studies' that claimed drivers recognize headlights on cars even during the daytime more so if they are not on. Automatically turning on and off makes it so people don't forget to turn them off in the bright sunlight. It's been this way since the late 80's in Canada.

Interesting. Are automatic car headlights required in Canada?

My Corvette was a Canadian export model and was standard with the automatic lights. Very frustrating.

It is a legally mandated standard safety feature in all cars sold in Canada to have some form of 'daytime running light' while in gear.

It used to be the headlights would just come on. You would need to flip the switch inside to turn on the dash lights and the tail lights.

Nowadays, car companies are more creative and are using the park lights or some form of fog light as the daytime running light requirement. My 2006 van runs with the park lights on until the headlights are turned on via a darkness sensor (auto mode) or by turning them on manually.

What was frustrating about it?
