Zong rear wheel assembly.

The "shaking" I encountered after first assembling my Zong has been explained. I took the whole setup to a local motorcycle shop to have it balanced and the guy told me that the rim is untrue. I was told to contact the dealer and be given a replacement, but the dealer is now too busy getting me a new MSO since I went to the DMV today and there were numerous problems with the original. Criminy!

Where do I start to go about replacing the rear wheel assembly for the Zong?

I think you start with a Spud built 18" rear wheel.

How bad is it. Usually a wheel can be trued back up. Check at your local bicycle shop. Wouldn't surprise me if they can fix it.

I agree with Allen. The least expensive solution is to find a local motorcycle dealer, or bicycle dealer, who will true the wheel for you.

However, if you can't find someone local to do the job, then a custom wheel becomes an attractive alternative. For example, you could loosen the spokes, and ship me your rear hub. If you also supplied the 18-inch rim, I could build you a custom rear wheel for about $135, plus the actual shipping costs to West Virginia. With an 18-inch rear wheel, you would always have a wide selection of tires to choose from.

I encourage you to check the local shops to see if someone will true the wheel for you. If you can't find anyone to do the job, or they want too high a price, send me a personal message. I can further explain your options, and itemize the costs for you.
