bizzare electrical problem

during my 400cc mod I replaced my faulty ignition switch. headlight, and engine specific parts. now when the bke is running both turn signal lights on the dash are half on, when the turn signal switch is set to one side the dash indicates the wrong direction but the correct turn signal flashes. the high/ low beam have switched so high =low and low =high this could be a wiring problem from installation and is probably unrelated. also the tach seems to go out of control sometimes, although i didn't notice it last ride.

im guessing ignition switch has one of the wires backwards but cant determine which one. any ideas?

My first GUESS would be simply follow the hot wires from the front blinkersto the first conection and swap them. However, I think it would simply make the front winkers match the dash display but flash on the incorrect side.

Second guess is to find the wires comeing out of the display, and cut and swap them.

also when the blinker switch is to one side, the tach freaks out and pluses up to like 10000

All I can say is that I don't think it's related to the engine. Something got screwed up elsewhere while it was apart for the motor swap. Maybe 2 wires somewhere were pinched together shorting them out? Maybe it's a cultural issue between Japan and China? Revenge for The Rape Of Nanking? :?

gahh my harness is definitely toast, i was wondering why my engine was breaking uo so bad at high rpms randomly on my old engine, and now even worse on my new engine, there are some shorts in the wiring harness that have fianally gotten so bad that the engine kept turning off until i wiggled various parts of the harness around. finally an explanation as to why it would work perfectly one day then suddenly start breaking up again.

I'm glad you diagnosed the problem, WA. Given the Lifan parts situation, where are you going to order your new wiring harness?

P.S. Since you diagnosed the problem, I reduced the size of the photo of your wiring diagram.

im giving metric parts one more chance, hopefully i wont end up cancelling payment this time :( .

this problem has been around for a while, so weird to diagnose because when i would take the carb/ airfilter to clean it cause i thought that was the problem i would bump the wiring harness in the problem area, changing the effect it had on running which made me think i had a possessed carb, sometimes getting better sometimes worse every cleaning and air filter change.

here are the symtoms for anyone who could have this problem: rough running especially at higher rmps and heavy acceleration, engine acting like it has a hard revlimiter at a lower rpm then it should, at full throttle surging then completely cutting out then surging again as if you had a revlimiter that would cut the spark for 3 sec everytime you hit it((except if would have a less consistent limit. and eventually dying and not refiring without jiggling the wiring harness, and now not even starting.
