THIS IS MY OPINION BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY.. IT IS CHARGING BECAUSE IT RUNS FINE ONCE YOU KICK START IT. BUT EITHER BAD BATTERY, BATTERY CABLE CONNECTION,AND OR STARTER CABLE CONNECTION IS CAUSING IT NOT TO START . IF LIGHTS FADE OUT WHILE SWITCH ON BUT NO ENGINE RUNNING SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY. IF YOU CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS AT THESE PLACES I BET YOU WILL FIND YOUR PROBLEM. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

I would check the fuse and then suspect the battery.

Bad fuse=nothing electrical operates except the ignition system.

I don't see how a fuse would cause those symptoms, but it's easy to check. I'd bet on an internally shorted battery or a bad ground.

Thanks for the help.
According to my tester the battery has 300 CCA.
Fuse is good.
Haven't found any loose connections so far.

CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTS AND AMPS AND TURN SWITCH ON. IM NOT SURE ON MOTORCYCLES BUT A CAR IF IT DROPS BELOW 9 TO 10 VOLTS THE BATTERY ISUSUALLY BAD IF IT DROPS TO 3 OR SO IT IS PROBABLY SHORTED. GOOD LUCK

I FORGOT TO ADD THAT THE VOLTAGE DROP WILL MOST LIKELY OCCUR WHILE YOU TRY TO START W/ E START.

To be sure change your fuse, they can look good but are open on one end. Also check your battery connectors for corrosion.

that is what has happened to me and you do have a fully working bike....lights and all, when the engine is running.

the lights fading out is because there is power stored in the CDI (capacitor discharge ingnition(stored in the capacitor bit  )) from when the engine was running

The battery is no longer connected to the electrical system that is the problem!!!

check its ground to the frame and then the + lead

Glad it's good and on the cheap but I still can't see hoe wa CDI would have caused that. The CDI is indeed a major CB high failure rate item.
