Last Commute for Season

Frost and rains/snow are closing in. :(

So, it'll be the car till spring. The XT Turbo is waiting in the wings.

Will be on the lookout for a 350 dualsport for next year's commuting season.

I'm in PA, and the rain, cold weather, and snow aren't too far away from me either. I haven't ridden at all the last two weeks because of having the flu - already. When I start feeling better, I wouldn't mind riding a little even when it's chilly, but I won't ride in the snow or freezing rain. I guess some guys will though; they have more courage than me.

In Texas I prefer to ride in the Fall and Winter. The summers here are TOO HOT when I have all my gear on.

Did ride yesterday-it was pretty nice in the AM.

PA it's a little cooler and Texas, does it ever frost there?

I rode all last week, down in the 40's when I get off work, but up in the 70's when I go in. I work second shift 10 hours 4 days a week. I can't leave the bike alone, I hate driving the car now. But it is mild here for most of the fall. Starting November I'll probably have to put some fuel stabilizer in it and park it for the winter.

If we are lucky we get frost maybe 2 or 3 times a year.... It has been nice the last week or so. It is 50 at night and 70 during the Day....But Just wait it will probably be 80-90 degrees in December...

I used to have a Honda scooter in middle school and High school, rode it year round, now I'm wondering how I did that. Maybe I've became a wimp, but the cold air gets to me easily even with alot of clothing, gloves etc.

I know what you mean in high school I had a Kawasaki F-7 175 road it to school everyday never noticed the cold. But now a ride in 40 degree damp weather and it takes hours or a hot shower to get rid of the chill.
I will admit by the time I got my Z1, I learned having a car in the winter is a real plus! Even if it's a VW Baja bug

It's funny you mention a VW Bug, I had a yard sale this weekend and traded a Marlin 22 rifle for a 1968 volkswagon, it has a dual port motor which I think is 1600cc, Weber carbs and a nice alum. intakes. The guy I traded said he couldn't get it to start, A little wiring and it cranked up. This car suprised the heck out of me!!!!!!!!!!! The thing pulls harder than a V8, I left black marks all over the place. When you cog a gear it feels like the front end is coming off the ground.

I bought a Bug once for $200 the old man told me he jumped a creek diving home during a flood. He said he parked it in his garage and it would never start after that. I climbed under it and reconnected the wires that plug into the starter and drove it home. When I bought it I had figured the motor was sour then he told me the creek story and I knew what it was.
Bugs kind of remind me of China bikes high maintenance and always need tinkering. Don't forget keep a big paper clip in the ashtray for when the throttle cable breaks!
My GY-5 just had the tach. go wacko saying 8 grand when shut off!
The needle was messed up where it sits on the metal spindle a drop of crazy glue and all was fixed, tinker'n

I used to have a '68 with a 1800cc from a van...It would burn rubber for as long as you dared to

That VeeDub is priceless

Congrats,

I've never had a bug before but they have a following like china bikes. This car amazes me, I am a small block chevrolet man and this car out pulls the 400 I had in my car. I am going to put slicks on it and see what it does at the drag strip

I'm so thin I vent heat like an air cooled engine. We are hitting the freezing mark at night. I have an electric vest and use it. Chest, back and neck stay toasty warm. My hands don't freeze the way they would if my core temperature was lower. Legs still get cold though. My riding season is over, still hoping for a warm day or 2. But soon the snow is gonna stay, and the wife takes the car to work. I have almost all the parts I need for my winter bike rebuild. I'm looking forward to ripping my bike apart this winter.
