New Rear Sprocket

I need to adjust the rear sprocket on my '08 HSUN GY 200 to allow a bit higher top speed. It is geared very low - almost too low for street use.

Does anyone know what the stock sprocket size is? 46 tooth, 56 tooth?

I want to keep the stock chain for now, I believe it is a 428.

What size rear sprocket would allow a top speed of 65 mph or so?

Any ideas on where to get a smaller rear sprocket that will fit?

If you look at the sprocket it may have the tooth count stamped into it, mine does anyways...

I got my 46t rear sproket from Bruce at EJ Cycles.

I can run 65-70 no problem... This was the single BIGGEST positive thing I did to the bike. I should have done it right after I got the bike. I can run 60-65MPH at 25-30% throttle now.. instead of WOT. I actually would like to go a little smaller on the rear... a 42 is popular, but Bruce said he was out when I called... A 40t would also work.. you WILL need to cut your chain down. Be care full I cut too many links out and had to use a second master link to fix it temporarily.

Bruce's number is
330-274-0098

You probably have a 56T rear. Go to a 46-40T rear to get that speed. You will need to remove about 4 links from the chain.

By darn, it is stamped "56" right on the sprocket. Thanks!

Looks like I need to go to about a 46 or so. Thanks for all the help!

Check your front sprocket

If you have a 15 go to a 17. 2 teeth on the front = 6 on the rear.
Cheaper and much easier to change. And you can swap back and forth.

Found mine on Ebay for 12 and shipping.

That's interesting and sounds like a good idea. How has that affected the top speed on your bike?

Any link to the e- bay site?

I have the same bike. My front sproket is a 17.
I put a 42 on the back (original was the 56) and I can hit 73-75mph without the air filter and jet mods.

With a 17/42 how is torque up a hill? Do you need to down shift at 60mph on moderate hills? I put a 49 on my Shineray and can get 65 on level and a tailwind and I weigh 250lbs. I get 55 at 90% throttle but still don't have the torque I'd like to see. I have a pod filter and main jet to put on as time permits.

The bike will hold its own up a moderate hill without a head wind, but I need to go WOT to do it. It will accelerate up if in 4th and take on a bit more of a hill. I am 200Lbs and 6'1". I find that my new windshield helps the aerodynamics. No chest plow. Transports don't scare me anymore coming towards me at 100 km/hr. It DOES need more power though. The Pod and Jet "should" do that for me... I hope.

I got it from the Barrie, ON Honda Powerhouse www.barriehonda.com 1-800-267-4449 powerparts@barriehonda.com. But I think any dealer can get one in your local area.

JTSprocket 324-8702 (42Tooth Rear Sprocket)

They also tell me the JTSprocket 324-8720 is a 45Tooth Rear Sprocket that fits the same bike.

These where cross referenced against the Honda XL 100S (years 1977-78)

If I may make a suggestion, I would have gotten the 4 little studs at the same time and put them on the sprocket before I started. Moving them from the original 56T to the new 42T was a bit of a pain.

I had to remove 4 links from the chain (caveman style) and I have a 17T front sprocket.
