Something lost already...

OK today I ran some errands and noticed that, what I call a heat plate, was hanging by one screw. I removed it and was wondering if it is functional or cosmetic?

Also where can I get a replacement screw and heat resistant washers?

Thanks

It probably offers the pipe some much needed protection, but other than that and obviously to protect any passenger on your bike from heat wounds I dont think it has any mechanical use.although it might.....also any washer or screw that fits should work thats what I would use, but wait for others to reply.I have been drinking.lots! :?

It's not neccessary, as long as you don't carry passengers who could burn their legs, or as long as you don't plan on hanging bags back there.

Any old screws/washers will work as long as it's the right size - you don't need "heat-resistant" hardware. You do need to tighten them up from time to time.

I have lock nuts on mine, and haven't lost them yet. One did loosen up on me once, but I just tightened it down again.

now is the time to research the local hardware stores in your area. the one all the other bikers use will have that machine screw. Keep the protector on. It looks better.

Ace hardware should be to match the screw. Take the other one in with you and match it up. $.20

I would use some permanent locktite on those.

The purpose of the shield is to protect the passenger leg and to look pretty.
