A little CG advice please ?
As some of you know, I had the bearings fall out of a cheap roller cam follower on my Hawk's " warmed up" motor, and after pulling the top end off, and realizing the cam, and crank timing gears were shot, I just put a motor from a parts bike on it. The current motor is running perfectly fine, but I went ahead and bought a $20.00 tool that pulls the crank gear without splitting the case. I was glad to see that a lot, if not all the bearings were inbeded in the gears, and considering the fact that there's seals on both sides of the crank gear, I think the rest of the motor will be alright, but I do intend to clean that centrifugal filter doodad that's under the clutch cover, and was thinking about going ahead and replacing the clutch disk . I have had other bikes while owning the Hawk, so I probably have around 5,000 miles on that motor. I know that's not a huge amount, but I was kinda thinking that it would be nice to change it when I clean that filter. Any recommendations on what to buy. I have new springs on hand already. Thanks

It depends on how much work you want to do I guess. A clutch disk set can be had for $50 or less, and a complete clutch with new springs all assembled can be had for about the same, or up to about $70. The benefit of the assembled ready to slip on complete clutch is that it is all matched up, assuming you manage to get the right one. You can spend a lot more but one of the less spendy ones may outlast the engine anyway. That is, I wouldn't go Barnett kevlar

Fully assembled clutch for about $32. This fits the hawk. Or it should. They do keep making small changes to the hawk engines. So verify by looking at your specific model. You will need the clutch tool to replace it. It should be under the "customers also bought" section. There are two common sizes, yours should be the 24/20mm one. Good luck. |

It looks like a standard clutch slithica, but it the description is "centrifugal clutch" !!!
You do not want a centrifugal clutch, which requires no cable/lever. Centrifugal clutches are for minibikes and smaller gokarts. I guess this clutch listing is just labeled wrong. You've gotta wonder about some vendors.

I already bought one, for mine. Bought it months ago, as a cheap backup.
It's exactly what is in the picture. It's not a centrifugal clutch, it's just key word spam. |
