Hawk 250 Skid Plate Option

Hey everyone,

I've had my DLX for about 3 months now and have loved it. I originally wanted to buy a skid plate for the bike but didn't really see many if any options that would provide protection to the bike without adding a lot of weight or bulk. So I recently designed and made a skid plate for the bike and tested it out over the last month.

Its been really durable and hasn't had any issues with high heat or impacts. It is made out of glass fiber reinforced nylon which is some incredibly tough material. It has the ductility to not crack or shatter when hit but the stiffness to deflect big impacts. I also designed the mounts so that half of it is a stiff flexible materiel that will reduce impact energy while still holding the skid plate in place.

I tested quiet a few engineering grade materials for this and settled on glass fiber nylon for its high heat deflection temperature of 314F.

So with all this, is anyone interested? If so let me know as I'd like to gauge the community interest.

Let me know what you think!

I like it. Personally I like having my current JerryHawk skid plate because it runs all the way back and covers the entire lower frame.

This might be a nice option for a few guys out there, but you may find a challenge competing with a few off the shelf options in terms of price. Still, you will probably get more than a few guys interested. It might be worth hitting up the Hawk 250 facebook group as well. Plenty of guys over there that would probably jump all over that.

Megadan has one of the few I fabricated with a center stand.

I appreciate the mentioned concerns. I've done a lot of testing and found the larger majority of impacts hit within the first 2/3 of the frame and motor when on the trail here in Colorado. Mostly due to the tire either flinging up tree limbs or rocks. I haven't tested the plate out on rock gardens since the bike in not really intended for that kind of area. With this plate I aimed at the trail riders because of its weight and slim width to allow for greater boot room and less sticking out to get caught on.

A full length skid definitely would give you the peace of mind if you are in some heavy rock field but the majority of users for this bike are probably not out in that kind of terrain.

Ill check out the Facebook group and see what they think of it as well! Thanks!

The Center stand would be sick!!! I got the CSC skid plate a while back. It's solid, but changing the oil is a pain.
