New 10/2021 TBR7 Can't Get 17 Tooth Sprocket On
I've got one of those newer, gold colored stock chains. I'm trying to upgrade to 17 on the front and leave the stock, 46 on the back but the chains not long enough with the wheel up all the way.
Am I going to be forced to cough up for a new chain? Is there a trick to getting it on? Can I add a couple of links? |

While there are options for adding links and 1/2 links, I wouldn't recommend it. The stronger chain only has 1 master link IMHO.

Thanks for the reply 65cabriolet. Do you have a link or can you direct me for the chain I should buy?

I sure don't. I guess I need to count the links. I know the rear sprockets 46.

It is always amazing to me that no one realizes that motorcycle chains are a universal part.
You can take your present chain to any bike shop and ask for one a couple of links larger and walk out with it ten minutes latter, with no worries about part number, chain size, crazy shipping schedules, or lost packages.

Apparently both sprockets & chains aren't universal Monsignor know-it-all.
You don't put a 520 chain on a 530 sprocket or vice versa. Are you trying to set us up? Not cool! Check out this link: https://www.tlzone.net/threads/chain...525-530.69853/ |

Thanks Buzz. That's probably what I'll try to do. Do you know if these are 520s or 530s on the stock 2021 tbr7s?

The size of your current chain is stamped into the side of the links ,and if it’s a 520 you certainly can use a 530 chain on the 520 sprockets .Also ,your bike was built with the cheapest components they can find in order to sell them at a very low price ,very few china bike chains are worth a damn ,certainly not worth spending money on your original chain when a reasonable quality chain can be had for $30.00 or so ,but you could purchase a little longer chain and the links you remove can be used on your china chain as a spare .

Thanks Bruces. Would you happen to know the number if links on the stock chain? I keep losing count around the guards etc.

Get the back wheel slightly off the ground ,mark a link with some whiteout ,then count the links as you spin the wheel slowly .It usually takes me 3 times before I am comfortable I have the count correct l.o.l. .If you don’t like that ,you can unclimbed the master link ,remove the chain and lay it out and start counting .I always end up second guessing myself so multiple counts seems the norm for me as I am getting old and crusty .
