Best Selling ADV Bike in the US?

After selling out of Pan Americas for this production year, Harley made the bold claim of calling it the "best selling ADV in the US" this year.
-I think the Pan America is a great bike and a good ADV, but it is difficult to believe it topped sales of all those CSCs, Himalayans, BMW GSs, Africa Twins, Teneres, KLRs, KTMs, Triumphs, and so on.
-Is it possible? I didn't see a whole lot of them in the Sturgis vids.

Interesting. I'm glad they're doing well with it after the V-Rod fizzle. Nice bike, just really poor timing.

Considering that they won't release the sales figures I think I would take that "Best Selling ADV bike" title with a grain of salt... Lol, maybe the best selling Harley ADV bike.
Sales and promotions people can put a twist on anything to make it look like they are number one, but without the sales figures it's a hollow claim.

Wheelbender6...did you also see the Honda CB200X in that article. It displaces 184cc's, has fuel injection and delivers 17 HP! The clincher (feel it!), is it sells in India for approx. $1944! Man...gina might have some competition!

I wonder how they are getting 17hp out of a CG motor? If it is a CG, the valve cover looks CGish.

I'm curious about all of the tubes and plastic around the back tire on the left side. Is it to keep a passenger's leg away from the chain?

It's to support the right-rear foot-peg and a place to bolt the muffler. You are asking about the Harley Pan America? Eh?

17 hp is a lot for an air cooled 184cc lump, stewbrash.
That is what the water cooled 200cc Lifan bikes make.

The ADV genre is really diverse, with engines ranging from 184cc to over 1200cc.

The problem with the big 'uns is picking them up if you tip over. I recall in a discussion about Chinese bikes in Africa on a thread on Horizonsunlimited, someone from Europe had taken their BMW full-size ADV bike to Morocco and was riding 2 up with their spouse. On some of the out the way roads, he said they were getting passed left and right by locals on Chinese 150cc bikes. If you ever look at videos of some of these exotic places on YouTube, even with the rough, dirt/sand terrain they have all over the African continent (or all over the South American continent), it would seem that everyone has dual-sports, but no; they are oftentimes more likely to be those very boring-looking, generic standard Chinese bikes (these tend to sell for far less money than any bike that resembles a 'dirt bike' would, so I can understand the appeal from the price point).

The allure for large-displacement bikes is the North American/European notion of hopping on interstates (whatever they are called in Europe--autobahns? motorways?) and riding at 90 MPH while not taking in ANY of the sights which defeats the purpose of doing a motorcycle tour in the first place.

No, the Honda.
