Battery popped!

The battery made a loud pop sound when it was being slow charged. There are six little rubber caps on the battery, and apparently one of 'em popped out due to pressure buildup. I removed each of the caps and saw no liquid at all inside the battery. Tim at vbike told me not to add anything, like acid, to the battery, just use it as is. Is it normal for the battery to be dry like this? and for the pressure to build up?

My battery with the cover opened and one of the rubber cap removed (second from the right):

My battery with the cover closed:

My opinion is to add acid. If you dont have any add distilled water. But get a second opinion.

My Jetmoto came with a battery "kit" in which I had to add the acid to the battery. In fact, the member formerly knows as 'porterzcustoms' had his acid spill out from his box--I think it came the same way in which the buyer has to add acid to the battery, but his spilled out of the heavy-duty plastic bag in transit.

If you didn't have to do this step, perhaps your batter came gel filled, and that is why Tim told you not to add anything. You should double check with him, unless one of the several Hi-bird owners could chime in.

Both of our Hi-Birds came with a sealed gel type battery. I just put them on a trickle charge while I was assembling the bikes and they have been fine since.

If it is dry add ACID, it can be picked up in most local auto stores for pretty cheap. Do not add water and don't run it dry. When you put the bike together for the first time you were suppose to pour the acid in, did you?

He has the Hi-Bird, which comes with gel-filled batteries. The dealer told him not to add anything.

Mine were pretty much charged also. I just put them on a trickle since I wasn't ready to install them at that point. I had them installed within a couple hours and they have been fine since.

Well.. they actually come dry charged on the Lifans that I have seen. You just pour in the acid and its ready to go. If it's a hybird it may be different but I would think they would be very similar.

A simple trickle charger can ruin a battery, if left unattended for long period of time.

You need one with electronic voltage sensing controls. It senses when the battery is at full charge, and switches itself off {and on and off...} you see this when the LED lamp is blinking and the meter needle bounces as the sensor reads the condition of the battery.

Mine might be gel, but it's definitely not sealed.
