Youtube

Who has their own channel? I have one but it's just for random videos I post here and there, not really steady content.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBc...AI96aXqMab3IRg

What are some of your favorite channels?

I don't really have favorites on Youtube. I search for things as the needed.
Usually motorcycle tests.

I have two. No videos uploaded because it's supposed to be for my cars, bikes, and track days. The other one is my personal account trust my son uses. Might use that one for our moto antics together

I do, but I never really made it to be a "youtuber" in the traditional sense. (oddBallperformance)

I considered it (full time) at one time, but it is a lot of work to do it in a manner that I would consider "well." I am no videographer, nor do I have any real video editing skills. I also already have a chosen profession that I love and have worked hard for. The idea of giving up all of that hard work to start a new career where my chances of surpassing my current income level are quite low, and the future of is rather tenuous at best, is just not for me. I will leave the high risk/reward game to those younger or braver than myself.

Plus, I lack the ability to kiss ass - something required to make it with sponsors. I.E. I refuse to say a kind word about, or otherwise instruct people to go to, Texas Powersports, or any of the other related companies. I can't sell my soul, or lie, for my own benefit at the potential expense of others. Nor could I ever put my name behind anything I don't believe in 100%.

Youtube is also just full of newbies looking to make their start and try and chase the dream of being a successful youtuber, and while I can't fault them for trying, they all also do the same boring and predictable stuff. "Hawk LED headlight upgrade! Much WOW!" "Chain and sprockets!" "Exhaust install!!! All the Herspewers!"

Now, I am not saying I don't appreciate those videos, or their enthusiasm. Nor will I deny that it may help others in some way. Just compare it to the types of videos I tried to make - try, because I have zero video skills lol - like How to do a head gasket, or my cam install video, how to service the forks or do the YSS Fork valve upgrade. I didn't make videos for views, or to get people to like me. I made videos to instruct and inform.

Then my absolute favorites is the large number of those people that take all of the information that I or others have provided and pass it off in their own videos as though they thought of it, or were otherwise the creator of said idea. Very few of them give any mention or credit to their source because they want to look like an "expert."

I think I should stop ranting now.

I have had a channel for several years. I don’t think I’ve posted more than five videos in a decade and most are boring as hell.

On the other hand, some of what I’ve seen from others has been unbelievably helpful to just plain wrong.

I had a personal channel just as a way to share some videos with people, but then I've also had another channel sitting for a bit, had 1 video of the SNIRT ride I did in NY a couple years ago.

I decided to dust it off and start back at it, right now I'm just doing Hawk 250 content but I plan to branch out and see what feels right. It's kinda fun and I enjoy editing. Shameless channel plug - (Skyd Control). Also despite my incredibly tiny subscriber count I've already connected with someone semi local interested in Chinese Dual sports, so that's cool.

I've been friends with He who goes by Motocheez since before he was Motocheez so he's sorta prodding me a bit with some motivation.

As for channels I like.....

Motocheez
Fortnine
Adventures with Purpose
Mr. Ballen

Those are the ones I watch pretty regularly anyway.

Ya that's the problem with the internet, you have to weed through and take it all with a grain of salt. I never consider myself an authority to speak uncontested on anything, even things I spent 15 years doing for work. I try not to come off that way in life, but especially online...I'm not trying to sell my word as gospel. HAHA. Besides, there's more than 1 way to skin a cat as they say

Nice List, I'm gonna have to check some of those out.

I gather you play? I worked at a local music store for 6 years but I don't play much these days....which is a shame I've got a few nice axes just sitting there untouched.

Yes I play, I am not much of a writer, I mostly just enjoy learning music theory, I do have some songs though.

Here is my Mexican Strat that I completely refinished last year. It was in nasty shape, all the plastic was stained and broken and lots of rust and rot in the old bridge and stuff. I also upgraded the nut and string trees to bone. Just gave her some good loven and got it dialed in really nice, it should last a long time. I am thinking about grabbing some Duncan Pickups and upgrading the pots sometime in the near future.

Nice Mexican strat!
I told myself I'd learn to play guitar after I retired. I did plink around in my younger years but between job and family...it took a back seat. I've been attempting for a little over a year now and try to practice an hour a day. Scales, chords, scales, chords, repeat.

Being more of a mechanic than musician, I did do a guitar build last year. It was tons of fun and it plays nice.

To the original thread.... I did make a video and post it on You Tube. Does one video constitute a channel?

I hear ya, lots of repetition. You should make some more riding videos, they are always fun. What were you using for an action cam back in 2016? the quality doesn't seem bad at all. Nice curvy road

Nice! I had a mexican strat for a while, black one with the 70's fat style headstock. Currently I've got a Fender Jeff Beck Signature strat in white, that's a sweet guitar, a Dean Les Paul style with quilted amber flame maple top, and an old 80's washburn that's my bum around guitar I got for next to nothing but it's got a fast neck on it. I also have a Takamine Jasmine acoustic, currently with a broken tuning key. I don't write at all, I mostly just like to play riffs and mess around, learn parts of songs I like. I was into learning music theory alot when I worked at the music shop but I just haven't gotten back into it again.
