Idle staying too high

On my apollo I just put a new pz30 carb on it. I have a 120 main and 42 pilot with pod filter. The bike starts great but just idles high AF and stays there. Even when I turn the idle screen it has no effect. I turned the air fuel both ways and still no effect. I'm starting to wonder if my jetting is too bit but I'm not sure. I'd appreciate any help! I just started back showing my china bike some love because I've been out on my Kawasaki ZX6r.

Check that you have the slide in the right way or enough slack in the cable so the slide closes all the way. There's a slot in the slide that needs to line up with the pin.

I double checked but I'll check again! Also when I rev it...it stays high and slowly cones back down. I also have zero free play in my throttle and I think there should at least be a little. I adjusted it from the line up top but it didn't add any free play.

Idle mixture is way lean. That sounds like an air leak in the intake. Check for damaged o-ring or gasket.

Okay so I know have the air mixture screw turned out pretty far and I adjusted the throttle cable, the revs have now dropped a lot and almost idling normal but still slightly fast and when I hit the throttle too quick while at idle it revs but starts to bog. I'm gonna go from a 120 main down to a 115 and see if that helps. Thanks jerry! Not sure if going down here will work but when I turn the mixture screw out super far its getting better and better

Changing the main won't help on the idle. Pilot jet is too small. Try a larger pilot jet.

Did you plug the vacuum ports that the SAI was connected to?

If you're talking about the emissions hoses and all of that I left it as it is stock. Also the jet kit I have only the main jets fit in this new pz30 carb. The pilot jets are different. There's a 42 pilot with the 120 main. I'm wondering if I can drill the pilot slightly bigger since my kit does not fit it. What do you think? And thanks as usual for all the help

make sure the end of the cable is sitting fulling inside the top of the carb and not caught on the side. That will take all the free play out and possibly lift the slide.

does the cb move that much more air? I am running 38/118 in a pz30 with exhaust and pod filter on my storm and its rich.

Good point, I've had that happen a couple of times. A 42 pilot should be good.

When I get home I will check to make sure the cable is sitting correctly. You're talking about the end of the cable up where there is a rubber boot covering the top of the carb?

A quick look down the throat of the carb can verify if the slide is seated all the way.

Make sure that the bolts on the intake, from carb to intake, and from intake to cylinder head are tight, though I agree, most likely something is mis-assembled on the carb. It's easy to get wrong, don't feel bad if you did.

No definitely won't feel bad! Its all a learning process. I just got home I'm gonna check it now to make sure something is not stuck. So weird but even with my old carb on , I still never had any free play in my throttle. I really want to figure out what's going on and you guys are all very helpful, gonna go check then I'll report back, tha ks again everyone
