Yes you CAN paint clear over that paint and yes it DOES come in a spray can. Just make sure the clear is from the same company (Krylon) and the same type of paint (lacquer, enamel, urathane, etc.)

Yep the clear coat will fix you up. You may have to search a little to find it.

kczukiman,
I did the ones on my Shineray, the mistake I made was just wiping them down and painting. I used the same Krylon fusion plastic paint your gonna use. I had to redo them, the paint came off really easy. I redid everything, I think if you scuff the original plastic with some 200 -300 grit sandpaper and then paint it. Let it dry good for a day or two if you have the time and then hit it with some 0000 steel wool and hit it with some air then clearcoat you will have better results. I will let you all know how mine turn out tomorrow. Wolf |

kczukiman,
Well after I painted mine the first time I was out checking out my handy work the next day and ran a finger nail across the paint and there was a nice white streak, the plastic color under my high speed go to war paint job. I went into the house and under the sink I found a old Brillo pad, 10 minutes later my side panels where white again. Blew them off with some air and hit with some 220 grit paper and blew off again. Repainted and I waited a day, hit it lightly with some 0000 steel wool and after some more air I clearcoated with some Rustoleum Crystal Clear enamel. I will let you know tomorrow afternoon what the reults are. Wolf |

grit
Are you guys really using 200 - 220 grit sandpaper? I'm sure it is going to leave nasty scratches in the plastics. Sounds a bit rough to me. I would have gone for 800 or 1000 , even maybe 1200.

I sand blasted mine to scuff them up and take the shine of the plastic off. Got the paint on and clear coat then left for the week end. I will know better how they turned out this evening.
It was kinda spur of the moment. Just could'nt take the flames any more. The panels are easy to remove and small enough that it just takes a few minutes to alter the look a bit. Not sure if I will do the same to the tank cover or not. |
