Apollo Deluxe feels Slower

Hey everyone! I hope youre all staying safe. So recently I was out on a ride on my new apollo, it only has about 25 Miles on it because im not fully legal yet. I know that I should not be crushing higher speeds (40-55mph) right now because its pretty much a brand new bike but I cant help but notice the lack of power I feel from it. I do have a drz400sm BUT I love my china bikes and my bashan storm feels more powerful and responsive than this apollo and I have done zero mods to the engine/carb. I make sure to use the choke properly but even when the bike is warm if I roll on the throttle theres a bogging happening and slight sputter. I know its bad to do but I tried to get it to 50mph BUT that bog stopped it in its tracks and I didnt get past 43ishMPH. I am taking guesses as to what it could be, aside from it being new, I did swap the jetting on the main jet to a 115 which is perfect and responsive for a friend of mine apollo. I did not how ever touch the mixture screw with the brass cap on it on the bottom side of the carb. I wonder if I should see how many turns out it is and maybe adjust it because of the 115 that I put in the carb. Aside from the air mixture screw, and it being new, do you guys think there can be anything else I can do? or should I just give it time to break in properly then try to make a fix if its still bogs when i roll on the throttle when im going about 40ishMPH? thanks in advance!

Idle mixture wouldn't really affect anything past 1/4 throttle. A 115 main with stock exhaust is more than likely too rich.

Hmm so I will try putting on my aftermarket exhaust. I have two choices here probably right? Swap stock exhaust or go lower on main?? Thanks by the way! Always appreciate the help.

Id get it broke in before I did anything. These motors change so much over the first 350 miles. Just my .02.

Thanks for the input! I was wondering if to just let it break in first too. Its a fantastic running bike, I just really did notice that when I was in the 40smph there was VERY little acceleration when I rolled on the throttle..if anything it was a slight loss of power. I will definitely let it break in more before I do much else. All I'll do soon is put the power core exhaust on. I have it sitting in my garage.

The choke isn't stuck on, and the air filter isn't plugged, are they?

I will have to double check on the choke..I have the handle bar control so I'll have to look under at the carb and see if its somehow stuck! I don't think it is but I'd rather know for sure . My air box and filter is clean and new. By plugged you just mean a kink or dirt and stuff?? I know one guys air box on his apollo has filled in plastic where it should have been open

I've accidentally had my Hawk on half choke once and experienced the same symptoms. I was ready to pull the carb when i realized it was n half choke.

That definitely sounds too rich. Mine was acting the same way and it’s because I had the choke on. Doh!

Then it also pulled much harder when I went from a 105 jet to a 100. Now that I have the air intake and cat out of the exhaust, the 105 is right for me again.

It definitely sounds like your jet is too big.

That sounds about right, ill look at my choke for sure just to double check. You and Jerry saying it might be too rich makes sense. Or too rich for the stock exhaust anyway. I have that powercore one. 2 Guys I know of have the powercore exhaust on their apollo with a 115 main and it runs very well. I will try the exhaust, then see if its any better, if not ill go down on my jetting, maybe to a 105 to see how it runs!

That’s what I would do as well. Every bike is different. My bike likes a smaller jet than JerryHawk250’s mod for mod. We have the same mods except he has a different style carb, but even before that carb, my bike liked a slightly smaller jet than his. It’s trial and error, but once you have it figured out, these Chines bikes run pretty darn well!

You're at a slightly higher elevation than i am, higher humidity. Warmer temps. All this makes slight differences. There's no one jet fits all but all close for a starting point.

This bike, and its pure dirt cousin, are Green Stickered by the California CARB (California Air Resource Board--essentially California's one state EPA) as off-road dirt bikes. Green Sticker means they can be ridden most anywhere in California's approved off-road areas year round. A more restrictive Red Sticker certification allows certain dirt bikes to be ridden part of the year round (due to weather, and limited to parts of the year when these bikes will emit their emissions without causing as much pollution). These bikes can never be plated for the street in California since they do not street-plate dirt bikes. Your bike is 49-state EPA/DOT certified as an 'on-highway motorcycle'--Californians need not apply!
