headlight glare

Went for another ride this evening. Got dark on me and light from the top of the headlight reflects back from behind the small fairing. Need to do something to block it as it does effect night vision. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Maybe cut a piece of plastic and fit in there. Dont think the light will move forward or not.

Take the headlight assembly out of the fairing and wrap the edge with black electrical tape

That makes sense! I did try to put some down there with not much luck when I got home. Taking the headlight out makes lots of sense. Should make a huge difference.
Thanks for the tip!!

My headlight was also rattling on the fairing, so I added extra tape to make it fit tighter...

I painted mine and also added some custom touches to the outside of the headlight housing.

The painted helps alot.

I like the paint idea even better. Took the day off to catch up on yard work and it rained. Guess I HAVE to work on the bike now :P Be a great time to go over all the fine points.

Looks like the light is acceptable on road. Still need to aim it a bit better as the high beam is too high to do any good. Doubt I would go blasting down a tight trail at night yet though.

45 wattt bulbs are about maximum for the charging system to handle.

Your taillight should be on all the time. The bulb probably has burnt out. Mine did in the first 100 miles. Replaced it with a used one I had in my stash of parts and it is still in there.

Not sure what bulb the headlight uses on the hi-bird, but in the parts sticky is a link to bulbs that have fit lifans.

The brightness on mine seems OK for now. Good point about the capacity of the charging circuit. I wonder though if one was to change all other bulbs to LED's, would the resulting energy saving be able to apply to the headlamp?

One other question, I have my headlamp assembly off and painting it. I noticed a second small bulb mounted in the side of the houseing. I am not sure what its for. The regular bulb is much larger and dual filament. Anyone know what it's pupose is?

The little bulb is like a parking light. Mine burned out a long time aga.

Switching to LEDs will free up some more watts, but the housing/wiring may not be up to the task of running a larger bulb either.

FMYstreetracer had the HID setup. That was about a year ago.

The PIAA bulb sounds good.
