2020 Polar Bear

Another one in the books, almost fifty miles today. Weather was sunny and just below freezing when I left.

What used to be a 12 mile ride to the donut shop is now 36 miles. I swear, I was as cold today as I was in 2018 when it was -10F.

I had one scare on the ride up to Country Donuts. Garfield Rd is a short and pretty gravel road between two arterials. The thing has taken a beating this winter and was damn rough. Near the end of the road it was glare ice and I went into a skid. I managed to get straight and stopped just before I hit the ditch. My shorts are still clean, though.

This was probably my next to last ride to Country Donuts. The owner is retiring on Dec. 31 and moving to Colorado. We have known each other for almost 40 years. 36 miles isn't too far to see a friend but it's quite a hike for a donut.

One thing I didn’t mention was that I parked the RPOC at Chez Fromage and drove the company Fusion back to Cheesy Manor because I had a job in Iowa the next day. Following yesterdays fiasco at Chez Fromage, I decided to ride the RPOC back to Cheesy Manor as Anger Management Therapy. Soon learned it was too raw of a day to be grouchy. Even with heated grips and boots rated to -25F, I was freezing when I got back. Kicked on the fireplace and sat down with a blanket and a cup of hot coco. With marshmallows. And bad monster movies.
