help/advice needed Hawk Swing arm Zerk fitting
HI,
So next dumb question! I have drilled, taped and fitted a zerk to the steering neck tube, so hooray for my team. The issue I am having is that for the swing arm do I drill through the frame and then the metal tube inside that or is the grease suppose to go between the frame and tube (bushing)? I have removed the swing arm completely as I thought it might be the bolt I could see, but its not. So can someone confirm that I should keep drilling through the tube/bushing, as I assume the grease is to stop the bolt welding itself to the bushing, especially up here in the north. Thanks in advance

I drilled through it all as it appears to be a bushing. I like Valvoline full synthetic with moly grease. Expensive but very slick!

Thank you. I was just a tad wary of just drilling and not checking.

Anybody thinking of how to tap the swing arm or Steering triple tree - At Home Depot you can get a #6 bit and M6X1.0 tap in a kit in the drill section. Drill it out and use the tap to put threads in the hole. Small crescent wrench will turn the tap, go slow and make sure the tap starts straight, perpendicular to the piece every few turns carefully reverse the tap one turn keeping it straight. Use a 6mmX1.0 short grease zert.

Post some pics? It's easy to do these days. Just attach a file with the paperclip. You don't have to go through the hassle of using photobucket or imgur. Just attach and post.
I don't know the vocab words, so I need pics. |

It sure does. I had to plug one of the holes with a pop revit.

Did you figure out what the original purpose of the hole was?

I’m sure they are rubber mounted and twist on the rubber bush
Don’t think geese will help but might harm |

That's right. I pointed that out years ago. On the rubber bushing type you don't want grease. You want the steel tube inside the rubber to be clamped tight so it doesn't pivot.

Marine grade grease would be you best option especially if you plan on any offroad riding where you will be going through water.
