Just got a Hawk. Basically no issues registering in Indiana. Put it together okay but I think I got a POS battery. Need to do the carb work, not sure if I'm gonna mess with the OEM carb or buy one.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the Hawk. Nothing wrong with the OEM carb. It is tunable.

Howdy! You and everybody else with a Hawk got a POS battery. Some got lucky and they actually lasted a year or so, but most of us had it fail within a few months, and/or they would never hold a charge properly.

As far as the carb goes, to make it easy on yourself in the beginning and stick with the stock carburetor. I would advise to look into at least tuning it unless you live at higher elevation. uncap the idle mixture screw and set it 1 1/2 turns out from seated, put at least one shim under the needle, and a 105 main jet is a pretty good way to get started on the cheap. If you want to spend a little more money you can get the carb kit sold by nzbrakelathes that is plastered all over the place. It comes with new screws to replace the tamper proof units, an adjustable needle, and a couple of main jets as well as some new gaskets and other rebuild parts.

Take the time to go over the bike very thoroughly, and check out the link in my sig for some additional info.

I was one of the lucky one. My stock battery lasted over 2 years.

Thanks again for the help. Go the Hawk running good. Go the kit nzbrakelathes seemed the best route to take. Having an issue getting a reply on the digital cluster. Anybody try one of these from eBay? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-N....c100005.m1851
