Hawk flooding??

runs fine but after a few miles if i kill at all it wont restart just bogs and sputters is it flooding??

it also will bog if i twist the throttle too fast at idle

Sounds like it is too rich. You need to revisit your carb tuning. Given the 120 main and 2 1/2 turns on the idle mixture on a stock pilot jet, it's safe to say that is the case too. Most people don't run that rich on either the idle mixture or main at sea level with the same mods.

Just as a side note, all carb tuning should be done based on how the bike performs when hot. A jet that seems to run great on a cold or cool engine will actually be richer on a hot engine.


I would say start with the idle mixture. Reset to 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated, let the bike get completely up to temp, and see how it idles. You shouldn't have to deviate to far from that point. If you can adjust the mixture screw with the bike running, then the idle drop method is the best way to get that mixture setting where it should be.

I don't know what your elevation is, but I do know that other members here with the same or similar mods are running 115 main jets, 1 or 2 needle shims, and around 1 1/2 turns on the idle mixture, give or take a quarter turn.
