Davis Mountains Texas
just car camping
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bw...1FocVd6aXdyd0U just a bunch of road pics http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/davis-mountains camped here http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/indian-lodge . one night here, built by ccc in the 1930's $107/night nice place, has a breakfast lunch cafe. https://www.nps.gov/foda/index.htm Fort Davis is one of the best surviving examples of an Indian Wars' frontier military post in the Southwest. From 1854 to 1891, Fort Davis was strategically located to protect emigrants, mail coaches, and freight wagons on the Trans-Pecos portion of the San Antonio-El Paso Road and on the Chihuahua Trail. this looks an awful lot like the john wayne movie "she wore a yellow ribbon" if my memory serves me. took blue route from south texas on highway highway 90 . pics from 90 and 17 north from fort davis

Great pics. We are still trying to plan a camping trip to Big Bend and bring the scooters.

A lot of history there.
My great-great-great(etc)Uncle was one of the first commanders of the Black Seminoles and I'm sure he spent some time at Fort Davis.

At a road side park out side of Sanderson tx we were eating our BBQ plates picked up at an earlier stop. It was near the train tracks and no traffic out in the vast open canyon land listning to the Canyon wren's and mockingbirds . Enjoying the cool breeze and beginning to put away the cooler in the hatchback, I hear a noise in the distance. I figured it was a train but sorta higher pitch since trains usually have the low frequency from a distance. Then , mabey a helicopter? Directly I turn around and see in the distance approaching mc headlights. Wait a minute, those don't sound like low groveling h.d.'s. A few seconds later the loud rush of 6 adv bikes going balls out (seemed like 90 mph) passing by. The car was just off in the pullout so they passed one by one fairly close it seemed. It gave me quite a rush. I felt like I wanted to flag them down and jump on one. All brands, bmw's KTM's, even a 2 up klr later passing that seemed to have open pipes (had that telltale single cylinder sound passing by). It Kinda cool so they were all bundled up in their best adv suits. There was a continous streem it seemed of ones and 3 bikes passing by a several min interverals all and at least 15 bikes or so in total i guess. We later saw them stopping at the Gage hotel in marathon texas for lunch I bet. My God , how I wanted to stop in at the San Antonio bmw for a f800 or so
