Doh! New Hawk 250 Problems

Hey guys recently finished building my Hawk but having a little problem getting it started. The battery seems totally fine all the lights work it just won't start up. It has only actually started up about 2-3 times the longest time being 45 seconds and then it died.. I have the petcock arrow facing down which I assume is ON and the choke all the way down. Really not sure what to try this is my first bike and have never worked on a project like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you adjust the valves or mess with any carburetor adjustment screws yet?

Okay thank you. I set the choke all the way up still nothing. What position should the petcock be in? I currently have it with the arrow facing down.

No haven't tried adjusting the valves or messing with carburetor yet.. Would I have to buy anything or just attempt to adjust?

I would do the valve adjustment. Mine came with no gap at all from the factory. You should buy a tool to measure the gap but other than that nothing special is needed.

Curious if there is a common thing people have around the house that is close to the size the gap should be.

if it has a full tank, it should be good up or down ... but if it does not work 1 way, try the other ... lol

Follow this guide but on the Hawk you don't need to remove the fuel tank. I did .05mm intake and .07mm exhaust.

I am going out on a limb here. try turning the big knurled nut on the right side of the carburetoe. the one with the spring. turn that in a quartwer turn at a time till it comes to some kind of idle. depending on temperature, choke should be full on (UP) up to 60 degrees or so, or when first firing. middle after a few seconds of firing, go to off (down) when running after 30 or 40 seconds or so. each bike seems a bit different etc.

read the hawk stuff on this board, tons of good info. if you are not experienced there is a lot you need to know and do with a new hawk, changing/filling w oil etc. gluck
you might want to go thru the Motocheez vids on youtube.
Oh, welcome to the asylum

I put a Denso Iridium 5372 in our China bike, only reason I went Denso over NGK was, Rock Auto had the Denso Iridium shipped with one of my auto parts orders for $5.xx a plug

Denso Iridium 5376 is the correct plug if you want to use Denso, probably slightly better than NGK.

http://www.sparkplug-crossreference....NGK_PN/DP8EA-9

Denso 5372 (IX24) and Denso 5376 (IX24B) will both fit and work just the same

yes, they will both work, but, the 5376 is the only one that directly crossed from the stock plug.
