Seers is right ... I believe if you check out Motocheez vids you will see he did an airbox mod. I dont know if a similar mod is possible on your fine steed!

Motocheez is using a mikuni? Nowhere do I find him mention that.

With the airbox mod, I didn't even bother using my Dremel, a box knife works just as well.

So far, the breather on the TT seems like a good one. It's big and has lots of surface. I know on Q, Boost Crazy tried several mods to the intake and if you have a good breathing box, it made no difference on his dyno having the stock box or a pod filter.

On the TT, I want to ditch the pipe and cat and then do some jetting. That should help a ton.

silly little pod filters hanging on the end of the carb.....

Anyone ever wondered why the bike companys go to all
the trouble to put a great big air box in...
(it's not just to take up room and make putting the other stuff harder to find room for)

Reasons for an airbox: An enclosed airbox lowers noise allowing for a more open exhaust while staying noise compliant. The airbox and tract is often of a tuned volume and shape to achieve a better power curve. The closed airbox aids in efficient closed crankase ventilation which is required for emissions compliance. The closed airbox can make for a cleaner look which helps sell bikes. The closed airbox helps protect the air filter. And there's a bunch more reasons for it to exist.

A pod filter can make more power if the airbox is restrictive but it won't automatically make more power. In most cases switching to a pod will decrease power unless tuning is properly altered. In many cases switching to a pod will decrease low end power and create a high end surge which feels like an increase in power because there will be a pronounced power band even when the overall power is weaker.

All good points '16 TT. You pretty much nailed it with the CCV system (for CARB and EPA) along with keeping the filter out of harms way.
I've swapped to pods on many of my CB's....but it was because the original boxes were pure garbage. Even on my new Rhino I just purchased, the original air box was a disposable cylinder with an itty bitty filter in it that was unserviceable. In that case, a pod filter was a vast improvement for both breathing and filtration....and serviceable.

Many pods also have shitty filtering ability. The only thing worse than a K&N is a cheap copy of one. Foam filters do pretty well if kept oiled, especially once they get a little dirty and are re-oiled.

If I had a low flow unserviceable airbox I'd start by trying to modify the box for a better filter, but I'd pod it too if that wasn't doable. Ideally I'd fit a paper filter to it if I could find one that fit.

If you still have that unserviceable box and wanna send it to me for a potential hack I'll tinker with it. Most you'll loose is a throw-away part and shipping.

It's already been tossed long ago. Honestly, it was junk. The filter was non-removable plus it intaked from straight down. A nice water syphon.

I know there's tons of conjecture, etc...on K&N filters. That said, I've run them my entire life with spectacular results and very long-lived engines, both 2 and 4 stroke. Like anything else, they need servicing and oiling. In dirt, I've usually run the Uni's back in my MX racing days. All good results....until I had an Uni go up in flames once. That was unnerving. It was a fluke accident though.
