How to insure a chinese Bike and how much it cost?
Well I bought a hawk 250 enduro it will be here Tomorrow and I called progressive and they said without the VIN they cant pull it up because it was not in their database. I had them quote me for just liability on a Honda CRF250L just to see what the insurance would be on a semi similar bike and they said it would be a one time payment of $75 for a full year on that bike which is like $6.50 a month or something like that. Are Chinese bikes more expensive to insure and anyone have problems insuring them? From Wisconsin here.

I did it online after the bike was titled and registered. I had to click other and the price was $75 a year for liability. Don't steal my VIN number.

Yea that whole Title and registration thing takes time ugh I have to call the dealer after I get my bike give them the VIN then they have to get something from the manufacture and so on 1-2 weeks dunno how long I wana wait to ride it lol. Would my bike be temporary covered under my auto policy? Like I know in Wisconsin if you buy a new car you have 14 days your insurance provider has to cover that car until you call and insure it. Not sure if thats the same with bikes but I dont hold a motorcycle insurance right now because i do not have a bike...

I got my MCO, title, registration and insurance before I got my bike. The bike is not covered under auto it is separate and you can't add it.
I got my MCO in the mail on May 23 and did everything the same day. The insurance started on May 31 and I got the bike on June 1.

75 a year for only liability seems pretty normal.
it gets complicated when you get into collision and comprehensive. they are a bit leery of parts availability my best price was with nationwide.

Check with you auto insurer first. Sometimes you can get a good price for a motorcycle too.
$75/year liability is pretty normal. I had full coverage on my honda elite 150. It was about $100/year. The value of the elite would have been about $1500.

If you already have the bike you can give them the VIN from the bike itself. That's what I did.

$75/year liability with Progressive is the standard rate I think. Me and my friend got the same rate for 3 different bike, Ninja 300, CBR 300 and a Suzuki DR200. Adding full coverage or comprehensive is where the differences comes. My DR200 with full coverage and the lowest deductible cost only $110/year but the Ninja with only comprehensive and double the deductible cost $270/year. I guess dirt bike or dual sport cost a lot less than a sport bike when it comes to insurance.

You ought to see what it costs to get full coverage on a big crotch rocket! A friend used to have a small motorcycle shop and would buy clean bikes to resell. He bought a hiabussa and said "maybe I will keep it to ride for a while" He checked and at around age 50 and no tickets it was over $2000 a year for him and that was 10 years ago! Since he financed all he bought he had to have full coverage.

Thats expensive I bought a 2006 CBR1000RR 5 years ago I was 25 years old my 2004 GTO that was totaled out was just off my record was pretty clean and it was cheap but I dont think I had to have full coverage I paid a lot of it with cash and the loan was lower than 5k so it was liability was pretty cheap I remember. Full coverage I think was $400 for the year if I remember right through progressive. |
