Looking for interest in custom made aluminum luggage for RX3
Am putting out a feeler, and this forum IS the place to do it.
Am associated with a person who constructs custom aluminum luggage for various dual sport bikes. He has just finished a prototype rack and rear bag setup for the RX3 Pricing is not determined yet, but should be significantly less than a Tourfella set. Part of the system uses part of the stock racking to ease assembly. He sent pictures of the prototype which I will post here later after my phone uploads to Photobucket. So...to those who feel the stock plastic bags aren't big enough (me), chime in here |

I would be interested in at least seeing them. May or may not actually go that route though in the end. rj

Please do post photos of the prototype. I'm sure many of our forum members are interested. I'm particularly interested in the mounting system. A common flaw with all the current pannier mounts I have seen is the placement of a forward strut which connects to the bottom of the passenger foot pegs. I would like to see the mounts connect to the top of the passenger foot pegs, on the subframe of the motorcycle.

Welcome, Tim. We are glad you joined us.
Please tell us more about the mounting system.

Thanx Spud. Been lurking here for awhile
Rack itself consists of three pieces. A large horizontal 'hoop', and two small 'prop' bars. Panniers are 18x14x8 As shown above, they're mounted as far forward as possible which requires the stock crash bars to be removed. Things are still in the proto-type stage for now, but i'm looking for interest/feedback to see if there's a market. As I did the same type set-up for the TW200 community, I'm kinda looking to do it for the Rx3. That being said, I'm just a guy with a bunch of tools that likes to tinker in the garage. Question I did have is, does anyone know the load capacity of the stock luggage? |

The RX3 subframe is very strong, but I don't know the official load capacity for the subframe. I suggest you query CSC for this information; they can provide the definitive answer.

I like these panniers and would be in the market for a set. My question would be how many riders need that much capacity. Most seem to use the RX-3 for off-roading where weight is a factor. My use would be for back road touring and camping and for that they would be ideal.

Tim,
It looks like you have all of the right tools for this project. I would like a tool box like this that fits the Tourfella racks. It would need clearance for the pannier mounting system: http://www.advdesigns.com/rurelotoforb1.html Thanks,

Tim, that's really nice work. Those panniers look right at home on the RX3.
