16t Sprocket on the XF 250

After reading so many great Amazon reviews written by tu250 riders, I decided to go ahead and order a 16 sprocket.

The sprocket came in the mail yesterday afternoon with my new 30mm socket and torque wrench. I was able to get to work on it this morning. The stock 15 was a little stubborn to remove with a 20" breaker bar but it cooperated eventually. When I got the old sprocket off I discovered my neutral/gear indicator wiring coming out of the transmission was never secured to the sides of the case and had been gnawed on by the chain a bit. I popped the wires in place using the unused clips on the case and kept working.

The bike came stock with a 43 rear and 15 front and the XF would do 65 in 5th (7,000 rpm's)OK but struggled beyond that. The bike makes peak HP at 7000 rpm's and is winded after that. I weigh 180 and ride at 2-3k feet elevation).

Great results so far on road and no problems with hills and wind. The bike feels great doing 65 in 5th and I actually had it over 70 today with little effort. I will try and test it on the dirt this week but suspect the XF is still going to do nicely on trails.

Also, any suggestions on lower priced Dual sport tires for the XF? The stock King tires have held up surprisingly well with almost 5,000 miles but they are almost done. The stock sizes are 4.10-18 (front) and 4.60-17 (rear). So far I am liking the Shinko 244 series.

The Shinko 244 tires perform well on pavement, and off road, as long as you don't encounter mud.
