Flat Tire

Got home from a ride last week to find the head of a nail in the tread of my rear tire. I didn't seem to be losing air so I initially thought it might just be in the knob of the tread. When I pulled the nail out it was over an inch long and had punctured the tube.

I picked up a new tube and thought I would tackle replacing it. I also got a pair of tire levers about a foot long. Removing the wheel was pretty easy using a motorcycle jack. One thing to watch for is a washer between the rear disc brake mount and the swing arm. It fell out when I pulled out the axle. It is best to unbolt the brake caliper and set it out of the way before removing the axle bolt. Everything else comes out with the wheel.

The tire levers worked great. For us Canadians, I picked them up at Princess Auto for $5.99 each. The same thing at a motorcycle shop was over $20.00 each.

Hey Leo is princess auto only in BC? My local shop sells them for 22$ each+tax. Wife only lets me shop at brick and morter stores. Too bad the shipping cost from BC would negate most the savings. The sad part is that they would have paid for themselves easily by now.

Looks like there is a Princess Auto store in Mississauga. Here is their website:

Great store, but please don't blame me when you go there and spend all your money. It's like a toy store for guys!
