The Chinese Muffler Poll

I thought it would be interesting to find out how many people have had issues with their mufflers. Things such as extra vibration, or even broken welds.

Mine has got some loose baffles inside or something and developed a major rattle. Also the little end pipe (the open part) has actually fallen right out aswell.

Hopefully someone with some pull (some of the nice dealers here), can sort of let the importers know the mufflers are... well... essentially crap. Now I don't actually have an american lifan, as I'm in Canada, mines a canadian lifan. I have heard of others with these issues and would like to see how common it really is.

It would be really awesome if the new ones could come with an approved spark arrestor even!

(elaborate: please include the type of bike and muffler issue)

Odd ball 200cc, No problems other than the bolts coming loose...Two studs and locks washers and double nuts later..No probs. Sounds pretty good also. Who knows about later down the road though.

Well it was stock until pieces fell off it, now I guess you could call it modded...

Notice any increase in performance? Or did it just sound better? Got a pic?

Hmm, No problems with mine so far and I drilled out the end... I do keep it in my shed though and give it a wash after riding dirt...

I think drilling out the exhaust would help. Just my educated guess.

Mine lives in a garage and also gets washed after mudding it up...

The muffler went in for surgery tonight, I cut the end off with a bandsaw (right at the end where the round part is welded on). Pretty much every weld in there was broken, also there is some fiberglass stuff in there wrapped with wire to keep tight, the wire had been busting/rusting off and pieces of it we're loose aswell. It's still in pieces for the night, gonna get it welded up tomorow, and take a bunch of pictures. Should sound alot better when done.

It's a little louder with no muffler at all

We've had some serious rain here in the UK, I was out in it for 300 miles the other weekend and it's killed the paint finish. No problems otherwise.

Jonathan.

I haven't but my buddy has had his fall off or become looses just about every ride and even after loctite he's now had his top mount(on the bike) wear out and his bolt/washer/nut wiggle out. His bike vibrates alot more than mine and I think it has to do with his loose bolt problems. I've had very few issues with bolts anywhere on the bike. My license plate has cracked almost in half from what I think is the constant rattling and pounding I put the bike through. I've drilled another hole in the bottom of the plate, added another bolt/locknut and expoxied the crack, so far so good.

Hey Jim, how did you make out with your muffler? Looking forward to seeing how it came out. Was thinking about cutting the end of mine off as well and welding in a bigger tube or making it so I can bolt on different ends so I can experiment with different size tubes. My sons 100cc bike has a bigger tube coming out of the back of the muffler than I do and it sounds much better than mine. I am after sound more than I am performance gains. Keep us posted
