Taking apart, Repainting Baja motorsports X250

Here are pics after taking apart, painting and started to get back together.

I had the engine all the way out...it was a doozy but got it back in with minimum scratching of fresh paint.

Rustoleum Hammer Black on frame.
Rustoleum 1200 degree barb Q grill paint on engine (semi gloss)

A perfect combo! Where did you find Rustoleum BBQ paint in semi-gloss?

The rustoleum came from home depot.
Also in the picture you can see the rust inhibitor, its a thin clear coating that dries and protects bare metal I use on the bolts after cleaning them with a brillo pad to keep them from discoloring from the weather. I used it to coat my mini bike sprocket also.

And the duplicolor primer is a thin clear spray to use before painting plastic and also works as a primer for vinyl material.
The dupli color adhesion promoter came from pepboys.

That's a beautiful color combination! You do very nice work. Please keep the photographs coming as you re-assemble the bike!

Nice find on the BBQ paint. I've seen it before but never noticed it was semi-gloss. I have the pipes on my V65 painted with the standard flat BBQ paint. It looks like I'm going to be doing some more painting soon.

It drives me a little crazy when everything looks nice but the nuts and bolts have a pitted whitish fade look.

This is a cheaper option than changing all the nuts and bolts to stainless steel.

I didnt realize they had high temp in semi gloss either until I stared in the spray paint section for a while.

Is your exhaust system stock, or aftermarket?

Its stock bike is from 2008.
I cleaned the ends of the baffle with brillo pads and silver/brass cleaner, then coated with the rustoleum rust inhibitor. I did the same for the heat plate

Some of the bolts on the baffle ends were too rusty so I replaced them with stainless steel bolts from Lowes...but the stainless steel is expensive so I'm trying to not make it a habit.

Once again, you did an excellent job. As with the engine and frame, the exhaust system looks great! We eagerly await more photos.

Stainless isn't too pricey if you find the right source. I buy handfulls of ss socket head cap screws at my local bearing shop (Precise Bearing in Abbotsford, BC) for cheap. I keep them in an organizer for easy access, and I replace China bolts with them.
