Stupid Mistake
I got my motorcyle out of the garage to do some riding. It was parked all winter. So of course the battery is dead. I was anxious to ride it so i only charged the battery for a little bit and hooked it back up. It was taking a while to get it started with the electrical ignition. Then the battery died. So I made the mistake of hooking the charger up to the battery and putting it on 'Engine Start' mode.Thought it would be ok but I guess it was maybe to much for the motorcycle. Anyways it worked, gave it power to the battery and i got it started. Then when the motorcycle died, nothing came from the electric start. No sound or turning over or anything.
Did I completely mess up the starter or just the electric switch or....? Any tips, parts that I could look at? I have a 2008 Hi-bird 250cc.

Your battery may have died with the extra boost of power.
Otherwise I would suspect the fuse, then the solenoid. Check the fuse first.

Agreed. You may have fried the battery or the fuse, More likely the battery as it ran when it ran.
No biggie. The OEM batteries on these bikes have short life spans anyways and are cheap to replace.

can these be run without a battery? If you connect the battery cables together, can you just kick start and ride?

Don't risk further damage. A replacement battery can be had for cheap, and I noticed that our local Walmart has AGM batteries, which are likely superior to anything else you'd find locally.

Ok thanks. I also put the battery back on the charger for a while. It gives me the green light that the bike is in neutral but nothing on the starter. There is a fuse connected to the wire right next to the battery that was still good. But I'll look into those batteries. So I should look at agm batteries? Is that a standard motorcycle battery or just a brand?

if you run without a battery insulate the positive wire so it cant touch the frame or you could ruin your electrical system
