DB-06 4th Gear Clutch problem

Just replaced my clutch plates, No luck. still slips hard core when applying any throttle while in 4th gear.... :x

I already have a new clutch on the way, will probably get here sometime this week if i'm lucky...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280903777890...#ht_3216wt_987

If the whole new clutch doesn't fix it... i'd say my bike is done for... or i have to get used to riding without a 4th gear...

Can you force it to slip in other gears? as an experement try 3rd or 5th and maybe apply a little brake.

It should be possible to make it slip in other gears. This HAS to be a clutch problem. It can't be engine or transmission.

I didn't expect the plates to fix it to be honest, so its not to big of a shocker.

Good to hear you say it HAS to be a clutch problem, makes me feel a lot better about it.

Nope it rides in all other gears 100% normal feeling, i applied the brakes in all other gears sides 4, couldn't get it to slip...

The only way a gear could 'slip', per se, is if it came apart catastrophically. That would be obvious. I may be wrong but I don't see how this could be anything other than a clutch problem.

what about 5th gear? it should do it in that gear as well. also i would check your oil screen for debris (behind the big big chrome bolt)

I think the springs are weak. Try a heavy duty aftermarket set meant for a Honda XR200R. Cheap at Bike Bandit.

I'm just trying to figure out why this is a problem. I don't remember hearing about a 200cc CB with a spun clutch pack. Maybe when he was running it with a missing spring he cooked the plates? Maybe someone put an additive in there at some point? An energy conserving oil? Maybe the current springs 'overheated' and are weaker?

:x :x :x :x Replaced the whole clutch, besides the basket, and the pressure plate. The basket wouldn't fit the teeth were just a hair to big, and I couldn't get the bearing in the pressure plate, i probobly could have if i tried really hard but i didnt want to break anything...

Anyways, It still didn't fix 4th gear. MANNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old basket appeared to be fine so i dunno...

When im in 4th gear and accelerate, it makes like a horrible noise in my engine/clutch, and the chain and sprocket shake violently.

This really sucks. FML.

I am sorry to hear about this.

I'm out of ideas... :?

Options are to ride it as is until it pukes, and or avoid 4th. You can replace the motor ($350 or so) with a new one, or a used one for less if you can find it. You can bring it to a shop and take it in the shorts ( ). You can sell it 'as is' and recoup some of your money.

Maybe one of the other guys can figure it out but I'm puzzled.

I'd lean towards selling it to someone who wants the project or part it out if you have the time and energy. A replacement motor may be good if you can get one at a good price.

New clutch compression springs, right?

Maybe they could at least ride it and give an opinion.

Sorry.

Everything on a bike is fixable it's just how it balances out on the bottom line if its worth it.

Is it actually slipping, or is it popping out of gear? It strikes me odd that it only does it in one gear, it should slip in all gears if it's going to slip.

I haven't had one of those engines apart before, but did you have to remove the shift shaft or shifter pawl on the shaft? If you did, are you sure you got it back in exactly the way it came apart?

My only other ideas would be a bent shift fork or damaged shifter drum or gearset... All of which would require splitting the cases.

If it only started doing this after you had it apart, I would have to guess that something is not quite put together right? Or maybe something got bent or broken in disassembly?

I'm sorry to hear of your problems, Gamma. :( I also think you should take the bike to a shop and let a mechanic ride it to see what he thinks is causing the problem.

If the problem resides in the clutch, you should still be able to fix the bike inexpensively. If the problem resides in the transmission, you will need to split the crankcase to fix the problem.
