Zongshen 200GY-2: 45,000 Miles On the Odometer!

Today I went for a ride, and my Zong passed 45,000 miles on the odometer.

The weather has been beautiful, and I have been riding my Zong a lot; it has never run better.

If you would enjoy viewing more photographs of my ride, please follow this link to my thread in the Ride Reports Forum.

That's quite a milestone. I wonder how many bikes in North America hit that number, before they're trashed or forgotten.

Have you considered restoring the speedometer lens? If you put some tape around the perimeter (to protect it), you could try polishing the lens with a soft cloth and some toothpaste. It makes a good light-grit polishing compound, and it works well on plastic automobile headlight covers.

Contratulations posted in the Ride Report section. :P

Heck my Gold Wing 'only' has 30,000 miles on it.

I remind everyone that those Spud miles are not light duty miles.

That is ONE amazing motorcycle.

Thank you, Weld.

Does polishing the lens merely remove the "crust?" I think I will try your method on a small area of my car's headlight lens. If it works well, I will certainly polish my Zong's speedometer lens as well.

For my pickup I bought a cheap HF headlight polishing kit. It took a bit of effort and worked quite well.

Toothpaste is even cheaper though, and I believe ID is a state where they continue to sell it.

Don't they sell toothpaste in Washington state?

Here's the only product I could find at Harbor Freight that meets your description.

It seems to me toothpaste should do the job as well.

Some states prohibit or regulate/restrict its sale. Mississippi, Arkansas, and Alabama come to mind.

He didn't mention Kansas, either. I guess you're okay to move, Allen.
