2 companies I know of are Supertrapp and FMF that make arresters and mufflers. Supertrapp makes some clamp-on universal disk-type arresters that are USFS approved. FMF looks to be clamp-on mufflers. Now, the way the law seems to be written here in Kalifornia, is that on BLM land, the motor vehicle must utilize a muffler or spark arrestor. although in forestry land, the rangers will check and poo-poo any bikes or atvs they find for a muffler as well as an arrestor or a USPS approved muffler. Kind of strange that they're not hassling the family in their 4-Runner SUV tootling up the road ahead of me....Pretty sure the owner hasn't fitted a Supertrapp to that puppy's tailpipe, and I'm also sure that the muffler isn't stamped with 'USPS Approved'.

I will have to get my mail lady to check. "USPS approved"
I am looking at trying to adapt a stock xr200 exhaust that has the USFS approvd stamp on it for later trail rides. I think the stock muffler is too loud and also cheap. My welding skills need some work yet before I can successfully weld up that type of job. Allen

Thanks for the info, yeah my stock muffler has a rattle in it now, so I have to cut it open or replace it...
About the other vehicles not being hassled, I've heard the new ford trucks get very hot, with all thier pollution stuff and can cause fires... |

The fire thing is true for most vehicles with low-slung exhaust systems. Park in the weeds hot here in the Mojave, poof....instant campfire.

Yeah, but I mean the truck it self.... as far as I know they have a sort of "trash-burner" in there, and it lights it up and burns the extra crap in the exhaust...
I think they have been recalled... Might just be the diesels.. |

indeed, my neighbor has the new superduty diesel and he's had nothing but problems with it. They reflashed his ecu multiple times and they keep sapping the HP out of the truck. So far he said he feels like he has lost at least 40-50 hp...
His truck also belches out HUGE(at least 3' out of the tailpipe) flames off idle and honestly i don't think it looks very safe to me... ford is recalling all of them to try and fix the problem (which probably means reflashing the ecu to drop hp and torque to make it less exhaust coming out of the pipe) how terrible is that?!

Oh yeah, I know they need that stuff, I just forgot what it was called. Big trucks have to have them too, I believe on a new pete it is like 10K extra (money wise) to get it with all the new pollution stuff, which also add's extra weight and takes up way more space. Can't get fuel tanks under the door of a new truck like used to be...
I have heard (my brother reads alot about diesel pickups) the new dodges already have cleaner burning diesels, and without the problems of the fords... Not sure on the details, but thats what he tells me. Anyways, is there any more information on spark arrestors for these things, I went to the websites for those compainies, but it looks like you have to get a whole new exhast system? |

Check on the "Sparky" add on spark arrestor. I put one on my Jetmoto. You can see pictures of it in the gallery. They have them quite often on Ebay and most online motorcycle parts suppliers have them. They are approved and stamped "USFS Approved". Just another avenue for you to explore if you don't want the cost of a new exhaust system

I'm not sure...I bought mine off Ebay and the ad only said that it fits the YZ/CR/RM/KX round exhaust. I'm about 35 miles from my bike right now otherwise I could look at it and give you the model number. I cut the back half off mine, to keep the lenth down and keep from looking gaudy, and sheet metal screwed it into the collar around the pipe. I didn't really trust the hose clamp arrangement that they have. I'm sorry but I don't have pictures of the installation on my bike, but I put one on my go kart (Jetmoto) that has the same muffler on it. I do have a picture of that installation and if I can figure out how to link it I will post.
Can't figure it out so I will post a picture in the gallery.[/img]
