Front Brakes and Sprocket questions
Bought my Kazuma Redcat 150 couple weeks back, done some work on the bike, mainly bringing it back to running condition by cleaning the carb and fiddling with it so it would start, replacing the ignition coil and spark plug, etc etc, trying to bring the bike back from the dead after not being used in 6 or 7 years, sitting in this guy's garage.
Anyway, so the front brakes had fluid sitting in them for all these years so i needed to bleed the brakes so i could drive the bike and eventually get it inspected and eventually registered to drive in this awesome spring weather. Once i got the bleeder hooked up and attempted to bleed it, the brakes had what seemed to be no pressure, when i squeeze the lever, it simply went straight to the handlebar and had no effect on stopping the bike at all, and pushed out no fluid into the tube on the bleeder. So i took the caliper and master cylinder off in an attempt to diagnose whats wrong. Come to find out that the piston in the caliper is stuck in and won't release at all. My attempts to get the piston to release have been fairly unsucessful and i don't want to damage the cylinder it retracts into or anything of that sort, so i was just seeing if anyone had had any similar trouble/work, etc. Secondly, I wanted to see if anyone had a good place to buy a cheap brake assembly with a master cylinder, and a caliper for my bike. A kazuma redcat 150cc. Lastly, i want to have a higher top speed, and just trying to see what i can do by myself and cheaply to get a higher top speed so i don't get run over in my 150cc. Looking at getting max top speed possible. |

If you can post a photograph of your front brake caliper and master cylinder, we can positively identify them. However, I think you can probably find a replacement front brake for you bike on eBay.

Will do Spud, haven't quite got around to it yet. Would it matter if i got a different type of caliper? Can multiple different calipers work on a single type of rotor?
Also had a quick question to see if anyone knew where to find any information on this bike i have. Snatched it up for $550, needed a carb clean and new battery, was interested in a lifan, but couldn't find any used ones around here. Its a KAZUMA REDCAT 150cc. I'll post a pic as soon as possible, but its an 04 and i literallly can find absolutely no info about any specs on the bike at all. Trying to find what size front and rear sprockets are on there. Anyway, thanks for the reply Spud! |

The best way is to remove and measure them. For the rear, give us the bolt count, bolt diameter, bolt circle diameter, center hole diameter and tooth count. For the front, give us the spline count, the spline tooth height, the spline ID and OD and the tooth count. From there, we can guide you towards replacements.

You're welcome. Isn't the Redcat 150 a dirt bike? :?: I remember several different threads posted in our Pure Dirt Forum regarding a Redcat 150 dirt bike.

I have the pictures but am having technical difficulties with finding the way to upload them, will try again tomorrow. But yes Spud, it's a Dual-Sport actually, has all the lights and everything. Just need to get the front brakes fixed so i can ride it over to the shop and get a State Inspection to go down and register the dang thing so i can enjoy this weather down here in Texas!

This is the information we need, to help you match sprockets from the J.T. Sprockets catalog.

thanks for the tutorial Spud, ive got the pictures just havent had 5 minutes to upload them and post. Heaven forbid i even have the time to remove the front sprocket and get that measured and all. Anywhere you can find the sprocket sizes on your bike without removing them?
Also, if i was gonna replace the whole front assembly, (minus the rotor), could i just throw any brake assembly on there? or even just any caliper? My brake pads are circular, so that might make a difference, but other than that? Thanks again guys, this forum is great!! |

I'd never trust specs for a China bike, especially for the time it takes to remove and measure the front sprocket. You'll know for sure what you need if you remove and measure it.
A brake system needs to be matched. You can swap on an entire new assembly, but the master and caliper should be from the same machine. Don't mix an existing master with a dissimilar caliper.
