Daughters quad wont crank

My daughter was riding her quad(50 cc) not sure what brand, and she flipped it. She came out ok, but afterwards the quad would not start. It will not crank or anything. It sounds like the solenoid is trying to engage, but thats it. Any ideas?

Welcome!

Was the battery compromised in the incident? Glad to hear that your daughter is ok.

Like Weld said try to jump start it from a car or battery jump box. Check the wires from solenoid to starter. if the quad is on rear stand (rear tires in the air) and you have it in 1st gear can you spin the tires with some force or is it locked up? (Possible piston twist and seize up)

Hope those help.

Did it sit upside down for awhile? It is possible the cylinder/crankcase has filled with gas and is hydrolocking the engine.

^^ Motor would have stalled out before it could have hydrolocked.

My guess is the battery slammed down inside the box, and cracked a plate = shot. Try boosting it off something. When you boost disconnect the battery completely. If a plate DID crack or short out, it will stop the machine from starting with battery connected.

If it still just "clicks" I would pull the plug and try again (to check for the potential hydro). But I think its more likely that the battery is toasted.

Most likely damaged battery and very slight chance that it hydrolocked. The float may have stuck open and allowed fuel to run through. Had it happen on the lawn mower. Filled the crankcase with gas. Mower just clicked.

I know what you mean. My buddy totally hydroed his 09 beast about a month ago while we were out riding. Luckily I thought of it right away and I pulled his plug and blew it out, then used a heat gun to dry it out.

Ran mint after that.

But to the OP, the batteries that come in these machines are awful.

Those stock batteries usually don't last the first month.

Maybe the solenoid is done. You can jump it by connecting the two large connectors. I use a booster cable for that test (pleas be careful).
