Qlink Xf200 K&N air filter install

So since my exhaust up-grade and stock air box modifications to allow the new exhaust to fit properly, I ordered a K&N 50mm inlet air filter for my Q.

Notice my bracket that a fabbed up from an old clamp

The filter fits nice and the new mount bolts to the same location as the original airbox once did. I left the up turned area of the clamp to help keep the bolt head from rotating loose.

Everything looks nice and is very secure

Just need to extend the crankcase breather

All buttoned up and now waiting for the mail to bring some new jets

Very sweet trevort! I may have to think about this when I wipe out my stocker with cleanings. I have 3 K&N Recharge kits in backstock in my garage from other filters I've run, plus donations from friends who sold bikes.
Just put a K&N in my new car so I'm set there also! 8)
Best filters I've ever run and last forever.....

Excellent idea! I figured that some form of clamp could be fabbed to support the carb.

Still waiting on the new carburetor jets to arrive in the mail, so far the bike is running too lean with the 35/127.5 jetting. I have ordered a 37.5, 39 pilot and a 129, 130.5 main jets and 6 new sparkplugs to start the tuning process, I hoped they would have already shown up before this weekend so I could get some practice in at the track, but so far no luck

New jets have finally arrived and have been installed on the Q, first starting with pulling the carburetor and giving it a full disassembly and cleaning. Once everything was checked twice I starting the tuning process with a 35 pilot/130 main, needle clip at 4th and a fresh plug. Also have a 37.5 pilot and 132.5 main in reserve

Still tuning the Q had a few test runs today at the local track "aka: old abandon college running track" and the low temperature with cold tires = slow speed crash.

Who said that sliders don't work?

Exhaust slider

Leathers and boots took all of the damage, melted boot plastic on pipe

Not a scratch on the plastics or anything else

The bike is running too lean with a 35/130 jetting, time to step up a size

I'm now sold on sliders. I have some cool skateboard wheels that I'll use on Son of Weldangrind's TS185, once it's back together.

The melted goo on the exhaust pipe will almost wipe off completely. Warm up the bike, grab an old towel and wear a pair of heavy gloves, like cheap welding gloves. Wipe quickly over the area and it will almost disappear. The rest will burn off over time.

Did you fabricate the exhaust sliders, or are they commonly available?

I would tell you the name of the exhaust slider company but their customer service sucks so bad that I would not recommend them to anyone. It's an item that you could easily make yourself with a large hose clamp, heat shrink the drive area of the clamp, use high temp silcone hose or high temp plastic tubing, choose the color you like and decide if you want a 360 slider or 180 coverage. Header wrap or fiberglass is used as a backing to isolate the muffler from the slider and your done.

Also when using the skateboard wheel sliders use the cheap hard plastic wheels not the softer compounds, you want the bike to slide not get traction and start flipping end or end.

Thanks for the tip! I'm all for home-brewed fabrication. BTW, I'll likely choose Honda red RTV.

Wow! Those sliders definitely did their job, all right! Glad they...and not you or the bike, took the brunt of it.

BTW,....now that you've done the usual upgrades, along with cam, pipe, breather and jetting....how's she running? Noticable power increase? HP guess? Who are you usually leaving behind coming out of corners now?

With the 37.5 pilot/ 132.5 main jet, needle 4th position, air screw 1 1/4 out the bike is right on the money nice light tan plugs and cruises the street at 75mph at 6800 rpm without topping it out. The Hotcams stage 1 cam is giving the bike great low end power and has me thinking about switching to their stage 2 cam wanting more from the bike. On the track xr 200's, 250's, crf 230's l's and m's are no competiton but the modded 80's can kill me and the harder I push the bike the more short comings I find 1. Front brake- solution Yamaha R6 radial front master cylinder, new EBC pads 2. Rear brake- not you can do but some brake pads here or rear disc conversion 3. Front suspension- Racetech does have a gold valve emulators that could be used and springs or a Crf full swap? 4. Rear suspension- when I late brake into turns the back end hops pretty bad, R6 rear shock swap planned 5. tires, still doing alot of research on this item and i'll try to keep everyone up to date as parts are added to my bike
