I found some bicycle bars that should work in the scrap pile. Also with alittle reworking of the engine mounts the stock tecumseh gas tank will fit.
Ordered a clutch last night. Next week I plan to put the frame in the electrolysis tank.

Glad to hear that you found some bicycle bars. I was thinking that, but most "baby apes" use a single clamp stem, instead of 7/8" double clamps. Got a pic?

We got the engine running. New float in the carb. I think we will end up drilling that main jet some. Its lean in stock form and with a straight exhaust it is likely to be worse.

Next step is to get the frame modified for the engine. We need to make some mounting changes so that the stock Tecumseh gas tank will fit in the frame. Going that route instead of finding a frame mounted tank. I think we will get everything fitted and then strip the frame for paint.

You'll definitely like having some sort of spring'ed suspension on your minibike... or rather your kids will (not sure if the springs can handle adult weights). I had two of those Baja Doodlebug minibikes a few years back (same as Walmart one linked) with the no suspension. They were pretty jarring riding around the yard.
The stock DB30 (Doodlebug) came with a 2.5hp engine... that was pretty underpowered. It was fine for little kids but even then couldn't take a hill without a running start at it. But it could barely move me around on level ground. I put a jackshaft on one and re-geared it...and it ran more in it's powerband and did much better for the kids. A 3.0hp like yours will be a great match for that mini! On one of mine, I put a Harbor Freight 6.5hp engine. That mini was adults-only. It was fast and powerful and would zip me up all the hills in my yard with ease. Almost scary... could easily lift the front wheel. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. Kids love them. I've upgraded from mine to a PW-50 and TTR-90 for the boys. Cheers!

I plan to ride this. My yard is pretty flat and it already has a jackshaft so I think the 3hp will be enough.
Working and the exhaust and we plan to jet the carb after its done. Maybe we can pick up .01hp. Years ago Weld sent me a pit bike exhaust. It will finally get used. Quote:

I had a baja 90. It ran so well that I just left the stock exhaust on it and then I traded it for a couple power wheels.
Just ordered another helmet for the kids. We had another crash on Saturday with the buggy. They had switch drivers and didn't put the seatbelt on. New rule. Anyone caught driving without it will not be able to ride that day.
