Maybe the float stuck, I'll check that too.

if it stuck, it would be stuck closed ... is there a drain in the carb you can crack open a little to see if fuel comes out ... if it does, it is not stuck closed ... but a few taps with a plastic or wood handle should free it up if it is

Did you check the spark plug? A couple old Chinabikes of mine would foul every so often. The other thing could be the CDI. Those are my two cents...

another thing it could be is a tight valve ... you can pull the plug and put your finger over the hole to close it off and push the kick lever with your hand, if you can hold all the air in it, it may have one tight

I hope not be wise I have to drop the motor to get the valve cover off, but I'll check.

But I think it is a fuel issue. It was running fine, it runs on starting fluid, the plug is dry when I pull it.

I'll let you all know what I find.

i am betting clogged jet, or tight valve ... i did not have to pull the engine to do valves, it looked like i would, but did not, but i have a storm 250

I hope it's the jet or float. I tried 8 ways to Sunday to get tat valve cover off but no luck. That backbone is just too darn thick, engine needs to come down about an inch.

Okay so leaning towards the valves. Sparkplug is bone dry and still clean. Pulled the carb and it was full of gas. So the fuel isn't getting from the carb to the cylinder which points to the valves. Does that make sense?

Could it have fired up a few times then the valves get too bad? Maybe from siting a year? Thinking back it did take a few extra kicks last time I started it.

Hoping I can just drop the front of the motor and not have to drop the whole thing.

Sure, valves could be too tight, or a piece of carbon could have gotten stuck on one of the sealing surfaces. Have you tested the compression? If you don't have access to a compression tester can you hold a thumb over the spark plug hole so no air will escape when it's kicked over?

Forgot to mention it has a wicked backfire through the carb now too when I use starting fluid.

It could point to a clogged up carb/jet/airway on the carb too, make sure it's all clean and either poke them clean with a 'Wire Cleaner' or blow it out with an air gun/compressor.

Did you clean the gas tank up any or add a Fuel Filter to the fuel line before you attached the new carb? Seeing all the white crust build up on your old carb (used to be from the MMT added in the gas, it's now regulated/banned to use in most places now), I can only imagine what the inside of the Fuel Tank looked like
