New Templar X owner hear. Been looking around at modifications, anyone know if a PR300/ZS175FMN will drop in? I think it should compared to a PR250/ZS172FMM. Seems to be the same bottom end with just a bigger jug.

I'd say your assumptions are correct and it would be a drop in swap.

That might be the thing to do, now they also make a 4 valve ZS175 with the same bottom end... Hmmmm.

All I can say to that...is my numbers are pretty close. I was squinting over wind, but its close. I can check in a few days. Mine is down because of a stripped rimlock.

I hit 69mph at 9,000 rpm when mine was stock. I'm now at a 42 rear which hits 78 mph at about the same rpm.

It should go without saying that credible speed reports should be on relatively LEVEL ground with minimal wind, sitting straight up i.e. NO tuck! Of course, phone/GPS readings get extra credibility points!

I am curious now, I wonder if there is a speedo discrepancy? I will check it against a gps when I get the bike back together.

From what I've read (across forums), it seems that MOST motorcycle speedometers are 'optimistic' by 2 - 5 mph, compared to phone/GPS readings.

I get a chuckle every time I see a YouTube video, riding downhill (with a tailwind?) in a tuck, claiming that "Mine does x mph!". Maybe they were sliding downhill on horsepucky, too?

I swapped the TX250 over to a Niche 110-link (removed 1) X-Ring chain this weekend and fit a new front sprocket: JT Sprockets JTF270.14 14T
Rolling around the garage there was slight friction, but a very short neighborhood test cruise took care of that. Perhaps luck of the draw that my particular engine had enough clearance.

Borked my shifter up a bit. Borrowed a Suzuki shifter like our plastics are based on but the shift diameter was too big. Some talk about how similar our engines are to a CRF250 gave me the idea of trying one for those. Nope. Fits the splines but not enough offset to clear the engine case. Rerigged my shifter to keep on working and it's OK but still keeping an eye out for what may fit off a different brand. Just for the heck of it really.

Doubt it. Looks like the midpipe frame mounting boss to me. May or may not (likely) line up on the Templar. But could be managed.

I don't know anyone with an XR400 I could borrow off and new ones run like $25 so I guess seeing about a stock replacement would be the next move.
