Spud, have you discovered Thumpertalk as an additional resource for information on your XR?

Thank you for the tip, Doc. Yes, I read the forum threads at Thumpertalk, ADVRider, 4Strokes.com, and other websites.

Pitster Pro/Xingyue owners can learn a lot about the Rotax top end of their engines by reading threads at some of the ATV forums. The Rotax 400 engine in used in several CanAm, Bombardier, and other ATVs.

That is certainly an interesting possibility, Mike. Since I don't need it, I am selling my Rotax Engine Shop Manual for $5. A Pitster Pro owner can learn a lot about his engine's top end by examining this service manual.

not to mention the efi conversion would be a worth while conversion to do. but i know that for example with the kfz450r that has efi, you need a programmer to tune for intake and exhaust mods. willing to bet that if the rotax is used by several name brand quads. it would be pretty simple to find a unit like the power commander when you decide to do intake and exhaust mods.

power commander is plug and play, and moniters/adjusts the fuel map as needed while its in operation to keep the afr in check as you do mods.

I would much prefer a plain jane carb to fuel injection on a dual sport bike. If something goes haywire with your carb in the middle of nowhere you can probably fix/clean it and get it going. If your fuel injection goes haywire about all you can do is call AMA. I prefer simple reliability over added complexity anyday

Spud, thanks for the XR manual link. I have the Haynes version in paper, but I'm sure that this will fill in some gaps.

You're welcome, W&G. I don't believe Xingyue has produced a service manual for the XY400Y-2/LXT 400. Also, Daddy469 has reported his LXT 400 owner's manual is less than completely satisfactory. However, both the Rotax, and the Honda service manuals are excellent; I am sure they will provide good resources for Xingyue/Pitster Pro owners.

I had an 08 XR650L for a short while. Tremendous tractor like torque!!! It was just way too tall for me, especially off-road. Enjoy!

Thank you, Daddy. Xingyue modified the XR250R left crankcase cover to accomodate an electric starter, so I doubt the two crankcase covers are the same.
