Weirdness at cruising speed

So I've just noticed that at cruising speed (constant velocity) my bike acts like..... well like a brake is stuck. I get surges of power and it drops out a bit, but the engine never changes pitch really - although I can't confirm that since I can't hear very well anymore. So more of a feeling really. It kind of reminds me of driving like a 5 ton truck with a compression brake, but not that dramatic. Applying more go makes it go go go. At constant velocity with the clutch pulled in, the problem stops, but the bike still slows down (too much IMO) due to new brakes and the drag there of. This isn't a huge deal, more of an annoyance really, but I would love to hear some ideas! Thanks ya'all

Perhaps one of your brake calipers is dragging a bit? I would certainly start by inspecting both brake calipers.

Yep, a little lube on the sliders wouldn't hurt a bit. I'm also in the habit of applying black RTV to the backside of the piston driven pad to help it retract.

How long are the surges?

Also check your chain.

I'm going to take apart and lube both calipers this morning. I can confirm that at least one of them drags. I'm thinking it may get worse due to air in the line heating up due to drag so I'm going to check for air while I'm down there as well. It doesn't 'feel' like brake drag, but I've never ridden a motorcycle that had dragging brakes before. We shall see, I'll keep you posted.

Sorry, can't remember if you flushed the so-called brake fluid out. I would.

Just woke up from a drug induced sleep via migrane. I'll take pictures tomorrow when I'm up for the task. Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions as always. Last I looked I think I over tightened the chain.

I hear you on the migrane. I get those every now and then, along with hundreds of regular headaches inbetween. I get the kind where you vomit untill you edventually sleep or pass out. Today it's better because I can regonize the symptoms in time and take action before it gets to that point. Still the throbbing last for 24-48 hours. Get some rest and hopefully things will work out with the bike. I don't what it is in regards to the bike, it sounds like brakes, but I'm just throwing some other potential stuff out there just to keep an open mind. Take care and good luck.
